Ultimate Beverage Package Gratuities

Even though you have the UBP you still sign a check for each drink. Unless you add a tip onto the check, the check is zeroed out and there is no charge to your room. If you add a tip, the only charge you will have is the extra tip you put on, but not the 15%.

The tip is added to the cost of the package...no additional tipping is required.
With the current sale, a lot of people will be enjoying the UBP for free. I hope that NCL is also compensating the bar staff appropriately, but it seems to me that an extra dollar or two would be appropriate. I think they are going to get slammed with extra work because of this free UBP offer.

And even if you pay for the package, once you break even, the service on any additional drinks is no longer covered by the 15% you paid at the beginning of the cruise, so extra tips would be a nice gesture. Not required, of course, no big deal if you feel you've already given enough.

I will be interested in seeing if the drinks get watered down or how slow it will be to get the drinks

UBP has been around for almost two years now and no such things have been noticed onboard. UBP has also been offered as a booking promo before without this kind of ramifications.

I'm sorry that I have offended you, it seems that only nice positive questions are aloud.

Not offended in any way. However I am still puzzled about how this single promo would cause those things after all this time of UBP being available and previous promo events taken into account.

In other words you didn't tell any reason why you thought that it would even happen and without that, your question is just FUD.

well for one I been to las vegas plenty of times in their casinos they give out free drinks and they are not the best of drinks compared to the bought ones.

That is probably very true.

However with UBP the drinks aren't technically free and even with the promos, there are still a lot of people that actually pay for the package. On our cruises in the last two years I've both had the UBP and paid per drink and have not noticed any difference in drinks or service - with UBP I probaby even tip more often because that is the only cost directly associated to each drink.

So they actually track your purchases to see when you 'break even"?

Of course they have all the data from all sales in bars and purchase data to get the actual drink costs and make pricing decisions based on how much profit they make in average - but that is in HQ. No reason for them to track individual passengers - even though that is completely possible too.

But I really don't understand the point of your question, what are you after?

I was asking because I was unsure about what you meant by the extra 15% being charged one you break even??

guess I"ll just have to book a cruise with the free ubp promo and see what I get...
That's the spirit! :p

Everyone is charged 15% for tips when they purchase the package. Whether you break even or not, everyone pays the same. I was trying to say that someone who really takes advantage of the package is getting a lot more service from the bar staff, so they might consider leaving some extra tips. It is just a suggestion, after all I don't think anyone really knows how the autotips work for each individual drink order under the UBP.

Gotcha, thanks, that makes sense, I was just thinking that Big Brother was watching to see when you maxed out on the UBP cost and then they started charging you. Thanks for clearing this up for me.

Regardless of whether they are slammed or not, tipping an additional dollar or so to the bar staff is always a nice gesture (assuming of course that you get good service). My spouse has had a beverage pkg on Celebrity for the past three cruises, and she always has dollar bills in her pocket for such a purpose.

And of course, if a particular bartender has really given you great service over the length of the cruise, giving him or her a larger tip at the end is always welcome!
