sail7seas Posted December 23, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 23, 2014 Time and again I have read on this forum people saying "I'd never buy medications in Cozumel" and I've always wondered why? Has anyone here had a bad experience? Don't the Mexican people buy from these pharmacies as their neighborhood Pharmacist? I'm not talking narcotics or controlled drugs but blood pressure, diabetes tablets, antibiotics, seasick meds, thyroid etc I've never actually read a post by anyone who got counterfeit or expired meds. Have you?
rhinomike Posted December 23, 2014 #2 Share Posted December 23, 2014 Yes. Many, many times. Never had a problem.
mrsfuzzmo Posted December 23, 2014 #3 Share Posted December 23, 2014 (edited) We always stock up on Antibiotics (Amox., Z-Packs, Cipro) to keep on hand at home. Never had a problem. I think people are hesitant as the regulations on these meds is not as stringent as those in the US. Edited December 23, 2014 by mrsfuzzmo
chrispb Posted December 23, 2014 #4 Share Posted December 23, 2014 I've no need for regular medication but I've bought stuff for gyppy tummies from pharmacies in places like Cambodia, Egypt, etc. The local pharmacists are very knowledgeable about what to give you and it works far better than the stuff I take with me (which is next to useless). dperki1 Posted January 3, 2015 #7 Share Posted January 3, 2015 (edited) where is the pharmacy in Cozumel in relation to the Cruise port? Edited January 3, 2015 by dperki1
maldenmusic Posted January 3, 2015 #8 Share Posted January 3, 2015 where is the pharmacy in Cozumel in relation to the Cruise port? Which cruise port are you coming in on? There are pharmacies all over Coz but they don't all have the same selection. I always use Discount Drugs and Souvenirs which is on the 2nd floor of the Diamonds International downtown. It's about a 10 minute taxi ride from Puerta Maya but they have a huge selection, including antibiotics and you do not need an RX.

erinpdx Posted January 4, 2015 #10 Share Posted January 4, 2015 I will be arriving at the International Pier in February. Is there a pharmacy there? I am also wondering if anyone has been able to buy tramadol and Latisse there?
Watermanfunari Posted January 4, 2015 #11 Share Posted January 4, 2015 (edited) Location at International Pier. when you walk down the long pier from the ship you will come to buildings, the 1st building on you left, walk around the corner and you will see the pharmacy there. It is the first building before you head out and shop around the other stores. I have only bought antibiotics there. dperki1 Posted January 4, 2015 #12 Share Posted January 4, 2015 Puerta Maya Pier is where the Carnival Freedom will be according to that port schedule. The port shows a drugs and deli (weird combo) I hope they have antibiotics and other medication like inhalers.
LSUcajunmom Posted January 4, 2015 #13 Share Posted January 4, 2015 I went to Cozumel last April and went to pharmacy at the Carnival port and was told I couldn't get Amoxil or Retin-A as I had in the past w/out a prescription. Has it changed again? Anyone bought w/out a script in the last yr? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Forums mobile app

zqvol Posted February 13, 2015 #15 Share Posted February 13, 2015 I don't buy in Mexico because it is more expensive for me than buying at home. :D:D:D
sweetlove13 Posted February 15, 2015 #16 Share Posted February 15, 2015 Mexican pharmacies have 800mg ibuprofen marked something like ibuprofina that I swear works better than any Rx or OTC ibuprofen you can get in the U.S. I plan on stocking up on my upcoming trip. elisamarie Posted February 15, 2015 #17 Share Posted February 15, 2015 If you are going to Belize also, the prices are better there. We get them at the Pharmacy on the port. the Pharmacist is American and speaks English (like a native, which she is!).
nascarcruiser Posted February 17, 2015 #18 Share Posted February 17, 2015 When we were in counsel in January the pharmacies were getting pretty strict about you needing a prescription to get things not just narcotics but antibiotics as well. LSUcajunmom Posted February 17, 2015 #19 Share Posted February 17, 2015 This is what I was curious about. Some on here are saying you can still purchase meds w/out scripts. I was unable to last April. I tried at Puerta Maya. Which pharmacy did you go to and where you able to purchase antibiotics and if so did you have/not have a prescription? Thanks in advance. nascarcruiser Posted February 17, 2015 #20 Share Posted February 17, 2015 Our friends were the ones who were trying to get antibiotics. They tried several pharamcies an we told no. We were in one gift shop/pharmacy and I saw several things we use sitting out that you could pick up but if you needed a script or not I don't know as we weren't going to buy anything
aggie1 Posted February 18, 2015 #21 Share Posted February 18, 2015 We were in Cozumel in Nov and again in Jan. and could not buy antibiotics without a Rx prescription.
metairiegal Posted February 19, 2015 #22 Share Posted February 19, 2015 I still would be hesitant to buy meds in Cozumel.
NMLady Posted February 20, 2015 #23 Share Posted February 20, 2015 (edited) I still would be hesitant to buy meds in Cozumel. Why??? You don't give a reason. We live not far from Mexican border and often get our Rx filled there. Much cheaper, and meds are as good. Pharmacist is knowledgeable. I would think there are reputable pharmacies in Cozumel as well. Edited February 20, 2015 by NMLady
nascarcruiser Posted February 20, 2015 #24 Share Posted February 20, 2015 Some people are not comfortable buying meds from a pharmacy they aren't or can't use on a regular basis. You deal with the same pharmacy and pharmacist so for you its fine. for us our insurance is just as cheap.
miss meow Posted February 20, 2015 #25 Share Posted February 20, 2015 So....is it like walking into a Target or something where the meds are out on a shelf and you just pick up and take to the register?
