Nassau

We will be in Nassau next week, 8am-midnight & we are struggling with what to do. We'd like some beach time at a calm beach away from crazy crowds, do we have to do an excursion for this? Hoping the water is warn now. Would also like calm water where we can snorkel if possible. We'd like to get some local good food and see some history if we can. We aren't real touristy people but would like a taste of the island and relaxing. Any suggestions?

Your public library should have some guide books (they may be a few years old but beach info shouldn't be too out of date). Also there are tourism sites you can find by googling. But as Lulu suggests, you might want to be aware of weather conditions. Go on some weather sites (weather.com, etc.) and see what the forecast will be coming up.

Cable Beach is rather crowded and not that attractive. A good alternative is Cabbage Beach, on Paradise Island - just to the east of the Atlantis complex. It is a beautiful beach with some facilities - no tour needed, just take a taxi from the pier - lots of taxis to take you back.

You really want to play it by ear: if it is a warm day - the beach will be great, with water temp probably about 70 - but it could be quite chilly in Nassau in January, making for a poor beach day.
