Caribbean islands

we are due on our first cruise next week! Any tips are great,y appreciated :):)

Get US$ dollars - low value bills before you go for best rates.

Remember the Deet (insect repellent) for sand flies as well as mosses.

Take a lightweight wrap/pashmina for evenings as the aircon on many ships can be a bit fierce in dining rooms, the theatre etc. (Not been on Ventura but every ship we have travelled on has cool spots)

And as previously said - go with an open mind.

You will meet lots of people who are usually really friendly and helpful - chat about the ports of call with those who have been to the islands before. We have picked up some great info and tips from 'old hands' about the ports of call we're about to visit. You can assess whether their suggestions eg for good beaches etc appeal to you then get advice about getting there.

On the other hand make a polite excuse and don't spend time listening to negative people. You're there to have a good time - find people, bars, areas, activities, eating choices which you enjoy. Everyone has different ideas and preferences but you will soon get into the swing and probably become addicted to cruising as are most on here! . Enjoy yourselves.

I think it is St Lucia, as the planes take off they disappear behind a mountain. There is a shopping arcade right in front of where you dock.

Happy New Year to you and Tish. Are you still cruising? We are on the Adonia on the 22nd January, really looking forward to it.

I did enjoy our cruise with you both - the whale watching trip was brilliant:)

Yes we have got the bug now , after that first trip which we really enjoyed we were hooked !!! went on Celeb Reflection in Sept Eastern Med a superb ship and although hard work off sightseeing every day with our "new " friends from the good old USA (and there were a lot of them ) the food and drinks were prob on a par with P and O the service was better if thats possible , we are booked on Celeb Silhouette in June for Western Med (the free drinks package swung it) then back on Azura on 5 March 2016 for a completely different itinerary than we did plus a trip to Malta in Sept ,happy days

Hi Kruzeseeka.

When you are on Azura if she docks at the other side of the harbour from point Serraphine, that is next to the dockside cargo sheds you can get across to point Serraphine by water taxi which is situated where you get off the ship walk along the dockside towards the town centre and you will see the sign, it takes you across the harbour and when you get off the water taxi the Kareoke bar is right in front of you believe me you can't miss it. It is normally at its best when a P&O ship is docked at point Serraphine. If you do not want to take the water taxi it is about a twenty minute walk and the shopping centre at point Serraphine is outwith the cruise ship security area so you can get access. Try not to work your way through the Cocktail menu it can have dire consaquences.

Have a great cruise.

Didn't know about the water taxi - thanks for the great advice Sanjam. :)

Will certainly do my best to enjoy our cruise - and the Karaoke bar. Thanks.

  • 2 weeks later...
Went there last February. Caught the local bus (white van) in Back Street, it only cost $2pp each way. It reminded me of the scene in Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, the beach was full of people with their cameras pointed up in the sky :)

We got the local bus too in December - saved us over $50 return for our family of four! Loved the experience - there were loads of planes in and out including the KLM jumbo which was a bonus!
