grammyof14 Posted August 26, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 26, 2005 Planning a trip from LA to Hawaii, but don't know how to plan. When would the weather be the best? No hurricanes and reasonable crossing weather, winds and such. I know there is no guarantees but would like at least to be knowledgeable as to what to expect. Thanks
Arnold Don Posted August 26, 2005 #2 Share Posted August 26, 2005 Barb, Don't really know a definitive answer to your question because we are going on our first cruise to Hawaii on 4/21/06 on the Island Princess out of LA. Our thinking was that early fall should be OK before the winter storm pattern sets in; mid winter would not be too good for a smooth crossing and also seems to be the wettest season in Hawaii; the later in the spring you could go would be the statisticly the best for lack of storms in the Pacific and the rainy season is winding down in Hawaii. This fall was too soon for us; we like to think about a trip and plan and dream for a few months! Decided on the last cruise of the year because of the possibility of better weather all around and it is after Easter week. Don:)

Stevesan Posted August 26, 2005 #4 Share Posted August 26, 2005 This web site appears to be an excellent resource for seasonal climate data in Hawaii: http://www.imagine-hawaii.com/climate.html
DrivesLikeMario Posted August 26, 2005 #5 Share Posted August 26, 2005 Spring time is usually better for the crossing since the Fall is hurricane season. Many of the tropical storms and hurricanes on the West Coast of Mexico make their way across the Pacific, the same route you'd be taking. Once you're in Hawaii, just about any month is good to be there. The best weather we've had was in March though - not too hot and humid and minimal rain. August was the worst - humid, hot and rain storms.
VikingRob Posted August 26, 2005 #6 Share Posted August 26, 2005 We just booked Feb 20, 2006 - our 1st cruise to Hawaii. I heard that the weather was generally very good (possibly a bit rough a day or 2 out of LA and back but thats always a crap shoot), very few kids since school is sot out yet and great for whale watching. DrivesLikeMario Posted August 26, 2005 #7 Share Posted August 26, 2005 Yes, Rob, it's an excellent time for viewing whales. In late Feb. and in March, we sat on the beach on the Big Island and watched whale after whale go by, very close to shore. We had front row seats, but I can imagine being on a ship would be even better!
senior lady Posted August 27, 2005 #8 Share Posted August 27, 2005 We sailed out of Vancouver last Sept 25th. We had 5 very calm, warm days at sea. The temp was never lower then 85 the whole 2 wks.:) Would do it again anytime.
