What's the Nicest Thing a Carnival Team Member Ever Did For You?

...

You will laugh though at the format it came in. It is a recipe for 180 lbs. of chicken, so feel free to convert it for your group's size! Lol!! ...

We had the same thing happen a few years ago. DH & I love the Caesar Salad Dressing on CCL & order it every dinner. We asked one of the hostesses if she could ask Chef to give it to us. The next day when we came to dinner, she handed me a scribbled recipe. It was for 10 gallons of the stuff, but I had a chef friend break it down for us. Since then, it's in the cook book you get at chef's table. We make it a lot. There's nothing like home made dressings!

In 2011 my wife and I decided to give Carnival a try as we were RCCL cruisers for many years. My wife has a severe food allergy to some tropical fruits containing latex/rubber ingredients. We met this sweet hostess Karla on the Victory who took great care of my wife.

A year later we were on the Sensation and we were heading to the dining room to advise them of her allergies we passed this hostess in the hall. As we passed each other we all turned around and looked at each other and it was Karla. She said you're the lady with the latex allergy. She looked at our cards and told us don't worry I'm in your dining room and I'll take care of it.

We kept in touch on social media and every time we sailed and went to the dining room to advise them of her allergies the staff would know. Finally on one cruise I had to ask how they knew, since we always waited until we got on board. The hostess smiled and said a little birdie, Karla, e mailed us and told us you were coming.

In 2013 Karla left Carnival to go back home to Croatia and raise a family. We've taken several Carnival cruises since she's left and to this day Karla will contact her friend, who is a chef, and have him contact the chef on the ship we are on and make him aware of my wife's allergies.

Great story, Patrice! I love homemade dressings too. Way better than the commercial stuff.

Sailed out of Miami on 1/11/15 and my husbankd had a heart attack as we sat down to dinner. The doctors, nurses, and all of the staff were amazing and saved his life. We were taken off by smaller boat, stabilised in Freeport (not where the ship was headed, they diverted) and then air flight to Ft Lauderdale. Unfortunetly we are still in Ft Lauderdale and my husband is in critical condition. His heart is fine (2 stints) but he developed all kinds of serious complications. Please add us to your prayers as we fight to get him well and back home to Indiana.

Carnival is the only line I would even consider going on in the past and certainly in the future after all they did for us at our most serious moment of need.

I am not sure how I will ever thank the amazing crew members that stepped up to help us in so many ways. Once we are home I will write a detailed review to try to give at least a small amount of crdit where credit is due.

I join Sarah in sending prayers and good wishes for a speedy recovery cosmo cruiser. I hope your DH has the best possible outcome. I know it must be difficult for you too being away from home and family under these circumstances. I hope you will come back and let us know how things are going. I'm so happy to hear that Carnival team members took such good care of your DH and you.

As we send Cosmo Cusier prayers...perhaps...if Windawn is comfortable we can still put great things..they may be even more cofortable comming back if we keep sharing....what do you all think?

I'll just say the spa...I think many spa people read you and give wonderful treatments with minimal sales jobs and let you know of future deals. I had a hand foot and facial massage day 3 and a body massage last day..both were at discounts..first one advertised later in cruise..second one to fill first slot last AM..it was more comperable to a city price than a cruise price..that makes me feel just the best..free light food around massages and the people keeping the change rooms imaculate to enjoy showers..chats in there..a walk dinner..bed, repeat..lazy nurture days..nice staff..reasonable prices...hearing NO once and NOT ruinning massage with a sales pitch..I tipped well and think each treatment was 89..now 99 or so on the specials, down from appx 139. I think the spa staff is well trained and does a lovely job..on most ships..mine were just so..professional and helped me get the most affordable treatments that fit the pampering style I wanted.

I think it is wonderful to share positive vibes. Thank you for sharing yours! I enjoyed reading about your relaxing spa experiences. I agree with you that the pampering we receive on a Carnival cruise is special. It leaves me feeling refreshed and ready to once again face reality.

This is a WONDERFUL thread idea..I am writing my response before I read all things.

Remembering my name..I am a solo traveller and I have just been on 8 cruises I think now (last 2 being Carnival)..spread over a long time and soon soon soon my next one is coming..a last minute one as I just often with my work have to plan in about only 4 to 3 weeks in advance with saved airmiles to get me there..this site i have learned sooo much to help with my expectations and plans doing it that way. And it has just held me over..dreaming forever about travel living in cold isolated long winter area.

So I just say remembering my name..the clerks in the stores, the table server on the assigned dining cruise..and saving my wine there and having it ready pronto the next night on a 10 top singles table. One cabin steward always bringing me a tub of ice..I use to ice down pain stuff and I always want it in water, pop, ice tea..it is just a luxury to me i do not take for granted..not having an ice maker until 47..LOL and traveling abroad in my 20's I learned.

And on my second Carnival cruise my female steward..well both stewards seeing I needed a padding on harder beds I had and using either a comforter or egg crate to fix me up..pronto..and get the pillows I needed...they just notice the pain issues and really worked around my naps and everything..I tell you..the making themselves both available and scarce and the always saying hi..someone when you least expect it remembering you..I never felt alone on either Carnival cruise both with fun passengers and certain special team members...it wipes away all issues..and one can tell when sincere...it is wonderful...Sarah

Agreed. As a solo myself, the various staff members remembering my name just makes my cruise.

On my most recent Conquest cruise, I ate in the steakhouse the first two nights. The second night, the sommelier came to me after being seated with a bottle of wine "complements of the Executive Chef that he thought I would enjoy". Later on between courses, the Executive and Sous Chefs came to the table to chat. A couple nights after that, I was having dinner at the lido buffet. When I walked in, the Executive Chef was behind the counter checking on things. When he saw me walk in, he almost ran from behind the counter to come see how how I was doing and if I enjoyed the Chef's Table the third night. Every time he saw me we chatted. Something simple, but made me feel special.

While on the Legend we saw other guests yelling and berating our server. We went to the maitre d and explained they were jerks the entire time and that our server did a fine job handling these difficult guests. The assistant was there when we did this and that night when we returned to our cabin there was a beautiful tray of chocolate covered strawberries and other treats from the specialty shop and a note of appreciation.

When I was a young child one of my first memories ever in life was of a room steward named Abu. But I thought he was Abu the monkey from Aladdin. Every morning he let me bring him a banana and would eat it! He was hilarious!

Another time when I was about 10 I was fascinated with wine corks, and my grandma and I would use them as 'chips' while we played black jack in the cabin at night. So every day our server would bring me a bunch of wine corks, and on the last day he brought me three plates full, covered with the food covers, to our table and let me take them all! I had over 200 wine corks by the end of the trip!

Thanks Windawn..not sure if easier as a "one" or a "two"..but it is nice as a one to be treated so well...takes a bit of extra courage at first in cruise travel..and the extra change.."in a way" two go almost as cheap as one...fare on ship wise only.

And together or not...to be able to focus on self/selves and get away from reality... every few years in a larger travel experience like cruises..is such a gift and help!!

So nice to hear other solo experiences...when you at times do not want to find a "group" to join..and be a little "solo"..or it has not worked on a cruise..to have the staff pamper you just like this...it is all about the little things and recognition...I love the chef's table idea for solos or say "Grandma" who wants a break from the family confusion as well as couples..sarah

Love this thread......

I travel with my mother and sister and both have mobility challenges. Everytime we go to the buffet I help get them seated and thru the lines, most times someone will see and come and help with plates, drinks and such. One time our server from the dinning room was working most days and he looked for us had a table ready close by if he could. He knew we drank tea and had drinks on the way before we seat down.

I have had truly wonderful experiences on Carnival ships by team members over the years, but if I had to choose one...I can't, so I'm picking two and they just by chance happened to be on the same sailing...

My husband and I were on our first cruise together (his first ever) on the Elation (it happened to be the second sailing of the Elation). As an FYI, my husband is a quadriplegic and uses an electric wheelchair. It was cruise elegant night and we were getting dressed. I helped him first and a button popped off on his collar. We didn't have needle and thread so as I got dressed he went to the purser's desk to see if they did. When he came back the button was sewn on to the collar. Seems he'd gone to ask for a sewing kit and the purser took him into his office and sewed the button on right there, for him. It literally brings tears to my eyes as I write this because it was such a nice thing to do. :o

A day or so later my husband was going into the atrium elevator and the doors shut too quickly (which was remedied almost immediately after it was reported), and the impact literally sheered one of the footrests on his wheelchair. With the assistance of another passenger, he went to guest services to 1. report the elevator issue, and 2. see if they had duct tape for a MacGiver of the footrest. They did even better. They called the head mechanic who came up, took a look and then escorted my husband deep down into the belly of the ship to a workshop, where 2 other mechanics worked their magic, and welded the footrest in place. It was actually better than new!

On my last carnival cruise my fiance wanted one of those coconut drink/banks they offer drink of the day in and they were completely out. When I expressed interest in wanting it for my fiance to my bartender he said he would be back in ten minutes. Roughly 20 minutes later he came back with an empty one that he got from the employee lounge and gave it to me! Just the little things and also remembered my name!! It goes a long way!
