No, they use a formula; theoretical loss and has more to do with how much you bet, how long you play and what you play:

 

Take the Casinos Advantage (depends on what game) and multiply it by your total wager

 

(Casino Advantage) X (Total Wager)

 

Total Wager = (Average Bet) X (Number Of Bets)

 

You will then be comped a percentage of this theo.

 

There's a big difference amongst machines. Video Poker is often their lowest advantage (therefor, you are accumulating less points than slots) but that depends on the paytables.

 

Someone can put in a 100.00 and play a 3 coin, $ machine for 4 hours. Another person can put in (20) 100.00 and play for 4 hours. Machines being equal/same, your rating and accumulated points are the same.

 

There are other factors they consider but for simplicity sake, the point being that it is normally not how much you lose but the action you give a casino. How marketing uses all this, + other factors and comes up with offers or discounts, is a mystery. A sure thing is "occupancy" is a large factor when looking for comped/discounted cabins.

 

I would never post what I won, lost or amount of time I play. Those that do, keep in mind, may not be accurate, or important details are missing. I play mainly $1-5$ VP. I also play table games. I play several hours and give them lots of action, but I don't think that will help you.

 

I recommend talking to a casino host when you have play established or you can give them an accurate idea of what you historically play. They should be able to explain what you can expect in comps/offers. A CAS rep was able to tell me, BUT I have read this is not usually the case. Your experience was unfortunate. You could try calling another rep or talking to a host onboard.

 

If that's the case then they must have me confused with someone else. Last time on the getaway I went to the casino only one time, and hit for 1200.00 after spinning a few times on a dollar machine. I never went back, and got a letter from cas the other day as we'll.

 

I usually don't even go to the casino, but, we were waiting for someone to meet us there.

Kids Sail Free (or 50% in peak weeks) starts Feb. 1st and that is good for ANY category so if you booked CAS with 3rd+ guest, call back next week and get them to apply KSF promo.

 

We just booked this CAS offer for the 8/8 cruise. We were looking to do a summer cruise anyway so this just closed the deal . We upgraded to an aft balcony. Looking forward to it.

I never get letters. I either get a phone call from CAS or a 'card' in the mail for dates that they're comping me. Otherwise, I call CAS. But.....I've never gotten a letter and have all my cruises comped by CAS.

No, your total rewards card only comes into play with the land casinos. NCL has their own card.

Actually I got 10% off my cruise since I am Platinum on Total Rewards, just saved $200 :) I looked it up and called my PCC at NCL.

You do have to play plenty. And, in the long run, the more you play, the more you will lose. That is how they stay in business.

 

Losses MIGHT factor in, but overall play is the deal. But, as a business person, if person "A" lost $2,000 and the casino discounted your cabin by $3,000 - they took a MAJOR loss. MAJOR.

 

This is not correct, at least not now. I played for 52 hours on my last 7 day cruise. 3 port days, so yes, I played A LOT. I lost money too (CAS says I lost less than I did) and my bets were higher than previous cruises where I was offered comps for anywhere from insides to suites. I didn't qualify for an inside comp on my own for an upcoming cruise. They said I didn't lose enough. They had to include my husband's meagre play into it in order to give us the inside.

I would have to concur. I've been on more than a dozen NCL cruises and nearly all were comped by CAS (most often inside cabins - but, hey, it's a comp...). My most recent cruise (July) had 50+ hours of gambling, mostly at the craps table. I would say that my average bet in July was slightly higher than in the past. (BTW - for those of you who were wondering - I seemed to accrue about 50 points per hour playing $5 pass line bets with 2 come bets and all at full -3/4/5 - odds...) I did, however, get the most OBC for my play in the casino for this most recent cruise - the host stopped by on the last night to say that they had taken about $120 off my bill for the week... Even though I had earned only about 2,200 points for the week.

 

After this most recent cruise I called CAS about a comp for February. They also said that my losses were not very high on my July cruise (like the previous poster I thought my losses were a bit higher than the CAS folks thought, but not by a huge amount...) Anyway, they said they'd base my Feb. cruise on the play from a past cruise (not July, they went back to a cruise 5 months earlier when I actually gambled less and lost about the same...).

 

I had also thought that the comps were based strictly on theoretical losses determined by multiplying the house edge, average bet and length of play. (And, in that formula, playing pass line craps with full odds has a house edge of less than 0.5% so you really don't accrue a great deal of "credit" per hour..) Also, unlike a land-based casino, I have not seen that one's buy-in amount makes any real difference in the comps.

 

I was not very surprised that they kept track of win / loss amounts per player, but I would chime in that my (recent) experience seems to indicate that losses are factored into the comp calculation which is surprising. YMMV

I'm sorry, yes, total rewards will give you a % off depending on your TR status but once on board the total rewards card means nothing.

I have gave up any hope on dealing with CAS. Their communication is just non existant for most parts.

I got elevated to the second tier level mid april last year and did not get informed about that for a long time. Not on the cruise I made the 5000 points, not on the 10 days thereafter, just recently on the Jade.

 

Now I tried sending several emails to the Miami CAS office and seriously I think the representatives have the attention span of a 4 month old. Not even 10% of the questions and concerns I raised in the emails get answered and what they write for most part is not helpful at all. Finally yesterday I asked a different CAS person for a price on the Epic transatlantic and was quoted $658.25 without insurance whereas I can book myself for $665.05 including taxes and fees. Not impressed so I do not believe it is based on the money lost. I don't mind if they would just say "sorry but your play/losses are not significant enough for us" but this whole back and forth is just time consuming and tiring. Won't try it any further.

I have no CAaS status. On past two BA cruises, I spent a few hrs each night in the casino probably losing around $1000 total. I received my first CAS offer for a free slot tournament cruise for GA in August. That doesn't seem like enough to be offered that but I am not complaining! I do have platinum status with Caesars and frequent AC and Vegs. I fpdefiniely wonder if they not only look at NCL play but mine that Caeasars / Harrahs marketing list for potential good clients who will gamble x amount.

We have had very good luck with CAS, we didn't even cruise with NCL in 2013 and only a comped 4 day Sky cruise in 2014. Called them a few weeks ago, and we still qualify for a balcony on the GA, which we booked and upgraded to an aft for $180 extra. UBP was included as well.

We didn't come close to spending $2000 in the casino. It's amount played wins and losses count.

I have called and gotten 2 comped inside cabins this year. I am taking one in April and one in October. We don't generally upgrade and are ok with the inside.

 

DH does not gamble but I spend several hours in the casino almost every day. He vegges out in the spa. I generally play 25 cent video poker but wonder over to slots occasionally.

 

This week I received the postcard for the Tournament in either April or August and just booked the Getaway for the August 8 cruise.

 

So, no, I am definiitely not a high roller. I have had my share of wins, my share of losses, etc.

 

I have never tried to book any thing but a 7 day or less for free so I don't know what would happen if I tried to book a longer cruise. I can't get away from work any longer than that but in Nov. I will retire so I definitely will try at that time.

 

I did try to upgrade on the August cruise but they said since the original offer was for an inside I would not get the promotion. Oh well doesn't bother me, I am happy with my free dinners and bottles of wine and free drinks in the casino.

 

For years I just got the 20% discount then one day a rep on the phone told me I was eligible for a free cruise. I jumped on it as sometimes answers change on subsequent calls. I have no idea why the change, maybe I do gamble a bit more, but not a whole lot.

 

Our friends can't understand how we can cruise so much but honestly I can't find more reasonable vacations where meals and drinks are included.
