JNLROSE Posted August 30, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 30, 2005 from going flat while on board??????? :D I've read where some people keep theirs for a whole week  with plastic in the top, others place a spoon in the bottle  , what do YOU do? The only reason I ask is we NEVER have any leftover to keep!!! :p
excitedofharpenden Posted August 30, 2005 #2 Share Posted August 30, 2005 OK Rosie. I lied.:D It never does last long enough for me to try the spoon in the top business onboard. And once opened the orange juice should be consumed within 3 days, otherwise you get a dose of the pods. Or is that just on the M-Class ships?;) Phil
JNLROSE Posted August 30, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted August 30, 2005 Phil, never had a case of the "pods" before!! :D
teedee Posted August 30, 2005 #4 Share Posted August 30, 2005 I can honestly say I've never had a problem trying to keep champagne from going flat. My problem is it seems to disappear from the bottle too fast! I'd love to know what causes this.:D Terri

alpal1993 Posted August 30, 2005 #6 Share Posted August 30, 2005 On most occasions DH and I just drink the entire bottle,in one night. Not really hard to do.Neither one of us gets drunk just feel calm and relaxed. My wine in the dinning room is a different story.Usually drink two glasses and save the rest for the next day.On 12 night cruise I only had 2 bottles. As we did have our own champagne and the various parties that we attended it worked out just great! teedee Posted August 30, 2005 #7 Share Posted August 30, 2005 Probably the heat in the tropics, evaporation. :) Good Answer Ed! Don't you think they should give me 2 bottles to compensate for this? Terri
lilreckster Posted August 30, 2005 #8 Share Posted August 30, 2005 Since I drink champagne and my husband doesn't, I purchased a champagne cork (which is not really cork more metal) from my local liquor store. It cost $3.00 and I always take it with me on trips. It works perfectly.
JNLROSE Posted August 30, 2005 Author #9 Share Posted August 30, 2005 lilreckster, we have & bring the same corks! They work wonderfully IF we ever have any left that is!! :D Terri, I certainly think that entitles you to a 2nd bottle!
ocngypz Posted August 30, 2005 #10 Share Posted August 30, 2005 I do have a champagne stopper. But when I forget it, I use one the grapes from my fruit basket covered with saran wrap. It works!!

Cruise Junky Posted August 31, 2005 #13 Share Posted August 31, 2005 definitely invest in a champagne stopper they're cheap and work great.
Ekaj Posted August 31, 2005 #14 Share Posted August 31, 2005 We use the "wine saver" corks that allow you to pump air out of the bottle - they work great for champagne, too.
JNLROSE Posted August 31, 2005 Author #15 Share Posted August 31, 2005 I didn't know those worked on Champagne!
Ekaj Posted August 31, 2005 #16 Share Posted August 31, 2005 They seem to work great; some of the rubber corks are narrower and fit better than others, though. You just have to be careful not to use the pump TOO much on the champagne, though. :)
JNLROSE Posted August 31, 2005 Author #17 Share Posted August 31, 2005 Interesting! Might have to try that. We have 2 of those $3 champagne stoppers, they work fairly well! :D
excitedofharpenden Posted August 31, 2005 #18 Share Posted August 31, 2005 The best champagne stopper I know - a hangover from the night before. Well, at least until about 1.30pm;) Phil

And, why would I want a champagne stopper when I can preserve my champagne even better with the wine saver corks? ;)

joramrose Posted August 31, 2005 #25 Share Posted August 31, 2005 It isn't the champagne that goes flat on me onboard -- it doesn't last long enough for that. It is all the fresh fruit that is artfully arrangd on a plater when we arrive. How can I do justice to all that fruit when I am stuffed from the dining room? I even shed a few tears on the last cruise because I let one of my chocolate dipped strawberries go to waste. love joan
