Bringing Wine Onboard in Texas (Sunday Departures)

I just thought I'd give a heads up to those who aren't from Texas about buying wine to bring on board. We're Canadian, and didn't bother bringing any wine from home with us for our Princess cruise, as we figured it would be cheaper to buy it in Texas. We arrived late on a Saturday night, and took the shuttle straight to the hotel. On Sunday morning, we stopped at the gas station beside our hotel to pick up wine for our cabin. We found out that Texas has a law that prevents one from buying alcohol prior to noon on Sundays. Be forewarned - we were disappointed and had to purchase all our bottles through the ship at much higher prices. :(

Pretty common problem about buying alcohol on Sundays, quite a few posts on here about it. However, none of the ships from Texas leave very early so a noon pickup of wine and then to the ship would be easy. Also, there are a lot of places that sell wine/alcohol up to mid night on Saturday night.

Wine and beer, yes on Saturday evening, but the liquor stores (only place to buy the hard stuff) close at 9 PM on Saturday.

Oh it is way more complex than this. Sales for off premises consumption are allowed between 7am and midnight every day except Sunday. You can buy it until 1am Sunday morning but then not again until noon.

However regarding wine they can sell it until 2am on Sunday.

Liquor is even more complicated. 10am-9pm unless it's Sunday or Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Years day. If one of those holidays fall on a Sunday then they have to remain closed the following Monday.

Also if a beer or wine is over 17% alcohol it can't be sold on a Sunday. Regular stores can carry wine with that kind of abv but they can't sell it on Sunday. If a beer is that high it can only be sold in a liquor store. This is an area that gets violated a lot though since it's confusing. Most beers/wines fall well under that percentage but I've personally purchased 18% and higher beers on Sunday from more than one grocery store and I've never seen wines segregated.
