Wine prices Sea, Sun. Dawn

Can anyone give an idea of starting price for a bottle of wine on Australian Ships. Thanks :)

I think it is around AUD$26. That is the total price: the usual 15% is not charged.

Most of the whites we were drinking were between $33 and $39 a bottle... from memory the houghtons white classic was $33. They keep bottle for you in dining room so one was doing the 2 of us two nights... red were about the same... there is also a reserve list at the back and from there had a great red at $48.

 

Glasses were 8, 9 or $10...

Is Bubbly an option on the Sea Princess? I do not drink still wine and was hoping it might be in the Drinks Package $59.

If not what would a bottle cost?

From our recent Dawn cruise, I'm fairly certain there was some sparkling wines on the by-the-glass drinks list, at least in the MDR. And yes, they were covered by the package. Can't remember what they were though.

Question: Sailing on Sun Princess much later on and was wondering if there is a problem bringing on board at embarkation two bottles of wine for use in cabin? Also, sailing out of Sydney, is there a wine shop near the port? I ask because we will be flying in from Auckland the same day (early in the morning). Thanks

Yes, you can take two bottles on board. Take them in your carry-on.

 

Sun Princess usually sails from White Bay and there is nothing near that, unless you go out of your way. You may be able to get some at the inwards duty free section at the airport. If you are getting a taxi from the airport then ask the driver to stop at a bottle store on the way. The only other option is to drop your bags at the cruise terminal then get a taxi up to the Balmain shopping centre.

 

The other way is to bring a couple of bottles from NZ in your check-on bags. Wrap them in bubble wrap and seal them each in two layers of ziplock bags, and pack them in the middle of your suitcases. I've taken wine two and from NZ many times like this with no issues.

I've been through this for our cruise in November and you can take on as many bottles of wine as you like. You pay corkage on every bottle after the first two whether you drink them in your cabin or public areas. The corkage is paid when boarding and a sticker is affixed to each bottle. Now you're going to ask how much is the corkage. I can't remember now but it is either $15 or $18.

 

We'll be packing more that two bottles of our favorite wines in November. :):)

I don't know where White Bay is, is it near the CBD?

Not really, but not far. It's through the harbour bridge and round a bit.

 

There are rumours of a private ferry service starting up between White Bay and Circular Quay but I think they are waiting on state government approval or something.

Corkage is $15 per bottle. We have a case ready to go:)

 

When we come back from NZ we bring back 6 bottles of wine between us. If you pack them in your checked in luggage in wine skins which you can buy at most wineries in NZ or from a good bottle shop, you wine should make it safely. We have never had a problem. Otherwise just buy it Duty Free when you get off the plane and carry it on.

 

Actually just read the person asking the question is from Arizona but by memory we have bought wine skins in the USA.

 

The other storage option is of course, Rum Runners;)

Bubble wrap and double ziplock bags work just as well as wine skins and are easier to reuse. We take wine over to NZ as gifts for friends and return home with some NZ wine for ourselves. Been doing it for years and so far all the wine has arrived safely. We even brought champagne back from France once, and whisky from Scotland.

Unfortunately not, but it makes up for that by allowing you the experience of sailing under the harbour bridge. ;) It's quite spectacular. Make sure you're up on the top decks for that.

Hello fellow cruisers

Just wondering if I can get any feedback from people that have taken up the option of the drinks package. Was looking into it for our upcoming cruise to PNG on Sea Princess 22nd Jan 2016. I don't think it would be worth both hubby & I getting it as that would be I think $112 per day for the 2 of us. Maybe just me as I love my cocktails :)

We're getting ready for our cruise on Sea Princess to PNG leaving 24th November and I noticed on the print out luggage tags that the Alcohol Policy is clearly stated. Perhaps print out an extra luggage tag to take with you and if anyone wants to tell you different at check in show them the print out.

 

If you haven't found them yet, your luggage tags are in the documents in your online Cruise Personalizer.

When we cruised on Emerald Princess we were able to purchase a wine package of 6 or 10 bottles. I don't know if it is available for Australian cruises. If so I will be using that. In the MDR they would save your bottle for the following night or you could take it to finish elsewhere on the ship.

Just back from our PNG cruise today. There was no trouble taking extra wine on board and paying the corkage. We took 12 bottles and after going through the scanner a lady escorted us to the "corkage man" sitting at a table ready to apply corkage labels to each of the 10 excess bottles and apply the charge to our on board account. Our room steward was happy to supply wine and champagne glasses for use in our room and replaced them with clean ones each day. Naturally we also took bottles to the dining room to drink with meals.

There was never any suggestion that you can't do that.

No it's not, unfortunately.

 

We found the package was good value on the Dawn cruise although I wasn't totally happy with the selection of wines available by the glass especially as I can't drink Sauvignon Blanc or Cabernet Sauvignon. Unfortunately DH also loves cocktails so we had to have two packages.
