Free Walking Tour Tipping Guidelines

We are thinking of doing a walking tour of Porto with one of the free tour websites. The tour lasts 3 hours. The guides earn their money according to how much you tip but has anyone got a rough idea how much you are expected to tip?

Why do you need a "tour", first of all? You can walk around on your own....it's small and not hard to do! But, if you need a "tour", then

 

tip what you feel the experience is worth...there are NO guidelines. I would recommend getting a guidebook and exploring on your own. No tip required! And, you'll go on your OWN timetable!

 

A guidebook is the BEST investment into your vacation you can make.

I don't know the expectation but I would think the tip would depend on how good they are. I'd think $10-$20 for a three hour tour. But not sure.

I agree. If really outstanding the higher end, of course. If only okay, the lower end, obviously. :)

We usually take the 'free' walking tours in any European city they are available and generally tip between 5 and 10 euros per person.
