I first interpreted Lois's Spring Breakers as obnoxious drunks, but she didn't actually say that. If all she meant was people staying up past 10 PM, I could live with that. (On another thread, someone posted that they found the ship shut down by 11PM.) Need to clarify.

Obnoxious drunks? That is putting it mildly.....they were totally

disrepectful.....running around with no shirts on/no shoes on/ like a bunch

of idioits.......they took over the ship.....I am not going to speak for

anyone else....I felt VERY UNcomfortable on board.....as in, avoiding

areas I usually like being in......because they were in packs, all over

the ship:rolleyes:

I know they spoke to the staff crudely and rudely........if this is

"youth of our future"?.....I want no part of it.

Thanks Lois, that helps a lot. I do enjoy a good book and on sea days I will read at least two books and sometimes three, depending on what other activities are on board. (It keeps me out of the casino.) I will just wait to book the Tuscan Grille until I get aboard. I appreciate the help. Neil

Hi Lois and Neil, I'm another dinosaur who likes to actually hold a 'real' book when I read. Usually bring at least 2. Between the airplane and pool area I can't imagine what I'd do without them...

Sorry to read you had such an unfavorable time Lois. It's too bad the college kids seem to think it's appropriate to treat a cruise liner as if it were a keg house...

That's the reason I stopped cruising or visiting certain 'hot spots' in March, don't need that atmosphere.

Hi Patty:)......thanks for the reply. I posted over on the main forum

(defending another person's review) since I was on the same cruise.....

of course folks are all over the original poster......("they should have

known better, March is always Spring Break, etc...etc....)

I feel bad for the OP......nobody expected such horrible behavior......

And yes, I now know never to do a short cruise in March again:eek:

Hi Linda, thanks...I will move forward to my upcoming cruise to Alaska

in May. I think it will be more of what I am accustomed to (one can

only hope).

But yes.....this one was very, very disappointing.

Lois, I hope your Alaska cruise in May is much better that this one was.

After your earlier posts I went to the BB forum and read all the posts concerning the review and I can understand what you mean about getting trashed for even posting on the thread. I don't understand how people can blame the people that where negatively affected by the behavior of that many spring breakers, and the lack of control that Celebrity had with them.

I also checked out your roll call thread and not too many people had much good to say about what happened either. The story crossed over to our roll call thread and has received multiple posts as well. At least nobody is getting beat up on the roll call threads like the one on the BB.

I am hoping our trip is much different than yours, and your next cruise is much better than this one. I will let you know how our cruise turns out.

Awe Lois. So sorry about your recent spoiled cruise. March is a good time to go overseas, but never for solitude because it's mostly college kids (not all) who don't care what anyone else thinks. I am quite sure your Alaska cruise will be back to your "normal".

Have a great time!

I am hoping to get an Alaska cruise in this fall. We'll see if I can keep work from getting in my way :) Otherwise, I have a long wait until the Equinox!

Hi Lois! :D

You had every right to state your displeasure and disappointment. Those folks who see fit to jump on the "you should've known better" bandwagon can go kick rocks- they weren't there. Hopefully Celebrity redeems itself on your Alaska cruise.

Oh, and happy belated birthday my friend- hope it was a good one! ;)

Hi Neil, so how was the cruise? Did you enjoy yourself?

Hi Lois, Overall it was a good cruise. The weather was beautiful which we all know is controlled by the cruise line, so that was a plus. LOL My cabin steward was excellent and very friendly. I am not big on shows so I only went to one. I had heard so many praise Jayne Curry that I had to check her out. She does put on a nice show.

The food was fine. I am not a MDR person so I did not even try the MDR but dined mostly in the buffet. Food tasted fine and I enjoyed the Sushi Bar each night and most of the Indian Dishes were very good. The desserts were very good as well. I did think that the menu variety would be a little more expansive than what they had, but everything I tried tasted good. I think perhaps my expectations may have been too high because I had heard so many compliments on the Celebrity dining. I was going to try the Tuscan Grille, but when I went to make reservations I was told that they only seat solos at the late seating and I don't care to dine that late as it doesn't agree with me.

I did have some luck in the Casino so that was a plus. Usually if I only lose half as much as I expect to, I consider it a good trip, but this was the first cruise I ended up actually bringing back more money than what I left with. No I am not a high roller by any means, I usually just play the slots to waste some time and for some entertainment on the sea days and in the evenings. No big jackpots by any means but I hit a nice $400 and $300 jackpot and broke even or close to it on the other days. Very rare experience for me.

Now the things that maybe weren't so great. I had brought 6 books with me as I had mentioned earlier, and I am very glad that I did. The library was not very good. I don't know if it got pillaged on that wild trip you had to endure or what, but probably 60% of the shelves were empty. One section of books was devoted entirely to foreign language titles, primarily Dutch and German, and the books they did have left, were not any titles that I would care to read. As I finished a book I would bring it to the library and just leave it on the empty shelves for others to read, and since I was reading a couple a day on the sea days I was there every day, and the books I brought would be gone, so that was good, as others were able to enjoy them. If it had been a longer voyage I would have been very disappointed but it worked out fine, as I finished the last book while waiting to disembark.

A minor issue was I had some problems with the I-lounge as I kept losing emails that I was trying to send. I have had that problem before with other lines as well because for personal email I use earthlink and they time out if the email gets too long. The manager told me that they have problems with some email addresses and suggested I just use a gmail account. I have gmail but I use that strictly for business use at the bank, and don't use it for personal use. He offered to refund minutes but I had bought a larger package so I told him not to bother as I knew I wouldn't use all the minutes anyway. It was just a bother having to send the same email three times to get it to go through. Other lines have been able to find a work-a-round for me when I was having that problem, but the manager was not able to help with that as it was totally disconnecting me, so I would have to log in and start over. No big deal, just a pain.

Overall, I would say it was a good cruise, but then I have never had a bad one, no matter which line I was sailing on. If I am on vacation it is good, much better than being at work. If I found the right Itinerary I would sail on Celebrity again. I am more destination focused than ship or line focused when it comes to cruises. One thing I did miss was I like a full promenade deck where you can completely walk around the ship in the morning or in the evening. I knew before I left that this was not the case on the Connie as I had looked at the deck plans prior to booking the trip. Do any of the Celebrity ships have a full promenade deck where you walk completely around the ship? I know that you are much more familiar with them than I am.

Sorry this got so long.

Hi Neil, don't be sorry.....I asked and you gave a review.;)

First, nope, none of Celebrity's ships have a full wrap around

Promenade deck.

2nd....about Tuscan...that is a bunch of BS...what do you mean

the Maitr'd said he would only book you late?...because you are solo?

That is so WRONG......I don't know who the Maitr'd was but I would

have called him out on that:mad:......he lied to you:(...it is reservations,

not early or late....

I ate in the main dining room 3 out of 5 nights....I must say the

food was quite good.

Sorry you had email issues too.......and as for the library? I don't think

any of the "kids" on my cruise went close to it.......

Thanks for the reveiw.

Lois, As far as the Tuscan Grille I went there on the first port day in Key West in the middle of the afternoon, and tried to make a 6 o'clock reservation for later in the week. They did have some one at the podium just outside the restaurant and I asked if they had any early reservations available that week, as I was pretty flexible on what night I dined there, but I was told this. We can not seat you before 8 anytime this week as that is when our tables for two are available. I don't know if it was the Maitr'd or not, the gentleman was probably a little young for that position. They may have just been booked up already, I don't know. They may have just been that busy, and I just took it the wrong way. I probably should have booked it online before I left. I will know better next time.

Maybe they were booked in full...that is possible....but when someone

tells me because I am solo there is only a certain time? That is BS.....

I would have asked to speak with the Manager.....sorry you were

given a line......:(

Lois, I didn't mean for it to sound that I felt I was slighted because I was a solo, I didn't take it that way, as the young man had said their tables for two were only available after 8, so I think they were probably just booked up. I didn't take offense at all, I was just disappointed that I didn't get to try it, and that was more on me, as I just don't like dining that late as I am one of those early to bed-early to rise people, and I don't sleep very well if I dine that late.

On the other lines I have sailed on, I have always been fortunate enough to get an early reservation in the specialty restaurants without booking them prior to the cruise. They may have just had a lot of bookings that cruise, as I don't know how busy they usually are. I am sorry if I made you think that they were slighting me as a solo. That was not the case. I never felt slighted anywhere on the ship, as the staff was very friendly.

that was not the case!:)

The Specialty Restaurants can book full up....just depends on the

cruise.......
