katiegw Posted February 20, 2015 #26 Share Posted February 20, 2015 My parents have an ongoing joke about Sting Ray city at Grand Caymen. Even though they've been onn 4 or 5 cruises with GC as a port, they always try to go to Sting Ray city and have not once made it, due to either the ship not stopping at GC due to bad weather, or due to cancellation of all water-based excursions due to moderately bad weather. They were on Independence last week, and so once again, they had another failed bid at going to SR City!
allentownahoy Posted February 21, 2015 #27 Share Posted February 21, 2015 My son works on a cruise ship that is scheduled for GC every 2 weeks and his track record has been 50-50 as well much to his dismay as he likes to scuba or snorkel if he can get the time to go ashore. Mama Cruises Posted February 24, 2018 #28 Share Posted February 24, 2018 Tendering in Grand Cayman is definitely a concern in January. I've struck out 2 years in a row now! The sad thing is you don't necessarily get another port to visit, so expect another sea day :(:(:(
aftop Posted February 24, 2018 #29 Share Posted February 24, 2018 I was on a cruise that could not tender due to high seas. We were advised the port authorities make the decision, not the Captain. The next stop was Jamaica and we slowed down a lot to arrive at the regularly scheduled time. Not sure how it happened but this was not my post. I considered making a comment and changed my mind but somehow I am getting credit for someone else's post.
JoeRum Posted February 25, 2018 #30 Share Posted February 25, 2018 I guess I have been lucky. I have been to Grand Cayman 5 times. 3 in Feb, 2 in Sept. & we have never missed Grand Cayman. Love the port, I will cruise here any time I can. Nothing better than snorkeling, going to Stingray City and Starfish Beach. JoeRum

dwayneb236 Posted February 25, 2018 #32 Share Posted February 25, 2018 Have taken 3 cruises to GC. Have always got to go into port. Our Stingray excursion was cancelled this past Jan due to high winds on that side of the island though.
