hhalliv Posted February 22, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 22, 2015 Hey Cruise Critics, I know John Helad is a touchy personality around here, but I was wondering if anyone has made any requests of him?? I know on his facebook page he always talks about all of the requests he fields, and I was wondering how to get one to him. Does anyone know?? Thank you! Dazzies Posted February 22, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 22, 2015 I used this link today to request a Chef's Table reservation. http://johnhealdsblog.com/ask-john Don't know if it'll work yet, but I'm hoping. :)

love my grandkids Posted February 22, 2015 #6 Share Posted February 22, 2015 Usually it will work but on a number of times it falls thru the cracks.
hhalliv Posted February 22, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted February 22, 2015 I have asked John for seats at a ten top for dinner twice and got it both times. If you don't mind my asking, how did you get your request to him?? Did he respond, or was it magically done when you boarded??

jesseiam2 Posted February 22, 2015 #9 Share Posted February 22, 2015 John has always been fantastic, I have asked for things twice and he delivered both times. He replies back on the FB post where I made the request.

kjunea Posted February 22, 2015 #11 Share Posted February 22, 2015 John is a sweetie. I've requested from him twice and he has been very, very nice and helpful.
BigRed93 Posted February 22, 2015 #12 Share Posted February 22, 2015 I've always made my requests directly to the ship. To the steakhouse for chefs table reservations, to the maitre'd for unique table issues. Bless his heart to taking all those requests and passing them along, but most things don't need his assistance. Just saying...;)
jenne252 Posted February 22, 2015 #13 Share Posted February 22, 2015 Per the advice here, I sent a message via blog indicating it was our honeymoon. I received an email back saying to reply to the email the week we said with our cabin #. For steakhouse reservations and seating preference I emailed the ship directly and recd reply from steakhouse but not maitre d
Rena921 Posted February 22, 2015 #14 Share Posted February 22, 2015 Post it on his FB page. He is great about making the requests happen. Just make sure to remind him the day of (or day before) sailing.
hhalliv Posted February 23, 2015 Author #15 Share Posted February 23, 2015 I was going to e-mail the maitre d' directly, but a few weeks ago he went on a rant about how he is the one who should be fielding all the requests. I don't know why he said that, as I imagine it must be a lot, but that's what he said
Elaine5715 Posted February 23, 2015 #16 Share Posted February 23, 2015 I was going to e-mail the maitre d' directly, but a few weeks ago he went on a rant about how he is the one who should be fielding all the requests. I don't know why he said that, as I imagine it must be a lot, but that's what he said Because responding to emails is not an expectation placed on the maitres. Some may respond, others do not, then people get pissy if they don't get a response. The Maitre will be available for all right after boarding so folks who are requesting something six months out are wasting their time.
JLee1973 Posted February 23, 2015 #17 Share Posted February 23, 2015 Just if you request anything ask please our say thank you. Some get demanding and it tends to get under his skin a little.
wrigley80 Posted February 23, 2015 #18 Share Posted February 23, 2015 I have made requests with him in the past and he always follows through. When we are trying to arrange our meet and greet I will contact him for the location
Swampbaby Posted February 23, 2015 #19 Share Posted February 23, 2015 I have asked John for seats at a ten top for dinner twice and got it both times. Am I happy to read that. Without asking, on our last two cruises we were at a table for 2. Since we eat out most of the time and it's just the 2 of us, we enjoy the 10 top tables. Going to request this for the Bloggers Cruise next year.
labsnabys Posted February 23, 2015 #20 Share Posted February 23, 2015 Definitely ask through a post to his Facebook page as opposed to the blog. The Facebook posts are read and responded to very quickly whereas the blog posts may not be. Have a great cruise!
Huey72 Posted February 23, 2015 #21 Share Posted February 23, 2015 This may be a stupid question but what is a table for the top ten?
loubetti Posted February 23, 2015 #22 Share Posted February 23, 2015 It's a "ten top", a table for ten persons.
hhalliv Posted February 23, 2015 Author #23 Share Posted February 23, 2015 Thank you everyone for the responses! I posted on the Facebook page and had a response from one of the helpers in less than 5 minutes!
Poseidon Patty Posted February 23, 2015 #24 Share Posted February 23, 2015 I had an unpleasant experience with some spa employees, on the Triumph in December. I was very upset, went back to my cabin and wrote John on his FB wall. The next day, I had a very nice written apology asking me to please not let the incident ruin my cruise, along with a bottle of wine and chocolate-covered strawberries. John really cares that we have a pleasant experience.
golfb4cruzing Posted February 23, 2015 #25 Share Posted February 23, 2015 Only tried once, it was our anniversary. It was a test more than anything. He failed. No biggie.
