sj25 Posted February 23, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 23, 2015 I saw on a excursion that you can snorkle with sea turtles...anyone ever do it here. What did you think? Did you do the tour on your own, through the ship or private tour. thank you!
Rare crewsweeper Posted February 23, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 23, 2015 You may be best taking this as a ship excursion. Private vendor prices may seem cheaper, but often don't include Coz transportation to the ferry pier or the ferry fare. Akumal Bay is only a short taxi ride from the ferry pier. Also be aware whether excursion prices (ship or private) include or don't include food and drink. However, your most important concern is the return ferry time. Ferries leave Playa on the hour every odd hour. Coz has just recently gone through a time change. Not sure if that affected the ferry schedules or the time of day in Playa (although I think the announcement was for all of Quintana Roo). If on your own/private vendor, you'll need to make sure your watch is set to what ever time ship time is and then once at the ferry, double check with the ferry clock (especially on the Playa side) and work any differences with your watch so that you'll catch the best return for your ship. On a ship sponsored excursion, you don't have to worry about the time as the ship won't depart until your excursion has returned.
mlmc424 Posted February 23, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 23, 2015 I did the excursion through RCI and thought it was wonderful! I saw amazing turtles - easy snorkeling by walking in off the beach.

deanakay83 Posted December 19, 2015 #5 Share Posted December 19, 2015 I was looking at this excursion as well. I'll be there in 3 weeks, does anyone know if the sea turtles will be there then?
mlmc424 Posted December 19, 2015 #6 Share Posted December 19, 2015 I think they are always there. If the excursion is offered through the ship, then that would imply there is something to see.

Akumal is known for its sea turtles. You won't be disappointed.
mrsfuzzmo Posted December 21, 2015 #9 Share Posted December 21, 2015 Akumal is known for its sea turtles. You won't be disappointed. But just know it's not a guarantee. This isn't a sanctuary or anything. It's just a bay where there is a lot of turtle grass and the turtles tend to hang around there. We had friends that went and only saw one. FinallyCruisinIn2014 Posted December 21, 2015 #10 Share Posted December 21, 2015 While I can't comment on the excursion we did an Akumal sea turtle snorkel on a land vacation in Playa Del Carmen and it was fantastic! The turtles are not far off from shore and they were plentiful. Also some very colorful coral and a couple sting rays, too. You'll enjoy it!
