jayneez Posted March 4, 2015 #55 Share Posted March 4, 2015 Lynne, I would suggest that everyone watches their pennies these days and Thomson are certainly not a cheap option any more (if they ever were!) We are getting 10 days in a balcony cabin on P&O for the less than our 7 day cruise in an ocean view cabin on Majesty in June  Can I ask how you know the casino will be made smaller and the rock climbing wall will be dismantled? I agree, we've always paid more for our Thomson Cruise than RCI, there are cheap late deals for people who don,t mind having what's left. We have done 3 Thomson Cruises and 4 RCI we love them both for different reasons. Most people choose Thomson for it,s excellent customer Service on board, entertainment and Itineries, not because their cheap. We are very excited about the Splendour joining Thomson, she,s a gorgeous ship, not too big,so we get the best of both worlds. :):)
jayneez Posted March 4, 2015 #56 Share Posted March 4, 2015 I remember the comedian on one cruise telling us that the only way to get Thomson cruisers up the climbing wall would be to put a buffet on top.... Lol, we heard that one on a RCI ship
jayneez Posted March 4, 2015 #57 Share Posted March 4, 2015 Here are the deck plans: http://www.royalcaribbean.co.uk/images/Splendour_v2015_may_tcm16-59803.pdf Slightly disappointed that the show lounge is only on one deck. Also, no wrap around promenade - but perhaps I'm being picky. There is a 7 storey atrium though! The show lounge is huge compared to Thomson, you really don,t need another floor
CRUISIN LINDA Posted March 4, 2015 #58 Share Posted March 4, 2015 The show lounge is huge compared to Thomson, you really don,t need another floor Found this photo of the theatre on the web - looks pretty big :) Certainly better than the Majesty show lounge
kruzseeka Posted March 4, 2015 #59 Share Posted March 4, 2015 Looks good Linda! :) And apparently seats 870 so with two shows most who want to go should be able to be accommodated - more than 80% of the ship's capacity and there will always be some who don't bother. That's so much better than some ships which provide only around 50% capacity over two shows! May not be an issue for some but if you like the shows being able to get in may be a feature of your holiday which matters. This is a really good theatre! ;)
davecttr Posted March 4, 2015 #60 Share Posted March 4, 2015 (edited) Found this photo of the theatre on the web - looks pretty big :) Certainly better than the Majesty show lounge  800+ seats :) that climbing wall and golf course have to go!. climbing wall is useless in any sort of seaway and there are the 'elf and safety aspects. Splendour does not have a promenade deck. with at least half the 400 odd balconies in the shade there will be a huge premium on deck space up top. Install a bar and convert the golf into a sun lounge area. Oops, this means spending money, they won't do it :( They have two cover charge restaurants in Izumi and Chops Grill but what about an Horizons? Lack of one on dream is a big minus and Majesty at least has the Royal Observatory marred by classical music. ps - i know where the songle cabin ghetto will be, down aft on that lowest deck right above the prop shafts. Please bring back destiny, i could have any cabin I liked. Edited March 4, 2015 by davecttr

davecttr Posted March 4, 2015 #63 Share Posted March 4, 2015 Thats it but does not look large on the deck plan, more like a lounge to serve the 2 cover charge restaurants. the casino is of course far too big but they could downsize it and use the space as a lounge bar. Mean spending some money though. Where will the 'butlins' bar be?. the other ships have fireworks, high spirits, liberties and medusa. A good thing about Thomson is you get nice segregated naff stuff (other opinions may be available) P&O infest their ships with it ;)
CRUISIN LINDA Posted March 4, 2015 #64 Share Posted March 4, 2015 (edited) It was the music that made the Royal Observatory our favourite place on Majesty! Me too Brenda :) Actually, Dave we like the golf, but as they are always situated on the top deck where it is very windy, they are usually useless as the ball just goes off on it's own before you hit it, lol Edited March 4, 2015 by CRUISIN LINDA

A good thing about Thomson is you get nice segregated naff stuff (other opinions may be available) P&O infest their ships with it ;) Oh that's a shame if it's small and connected to other venues - they could certainly do with a decent sized lounge of that sort - in an 'observation' style location. (I was staggered by how small and uninspiring the one on Azura is - the Planet Bar? - not at the front of course but it just didn't work for me compared with similar ones on other ships.) Is that really you dave? Advocating the casino should be smaller????:D Sounds like a good idea though but as you say, will they spend the money? And you definitely have a point about segregating entertainment spots so people can chose to opt in or not. Thomson do have that sorted in their other ships - hope they do here too. Friends were dismayed that they couldn't even enjoy their balcony in peace due to the seemingly constant noise from activities/sea screen on the pool deck on Azura too.
P&O Lynn Knickers Posted March 4, 2015 #66 Share Posted March 4, 2015 (edited) ;) It was the music that made the Royal Observatory our favourite place on Majesty! I love music of any kind. It makes me chilled out, and depending on my mood how one enjoys ones evening. I am known as a great dancer, and enjoy a good time. Whilst on Cruises, I am often (than not) with the officers enjoying a glass of chilled blanc, and its great to have been invited to the officers bar on a few occasions. What a blast of a time i had. (Some people here are very jealous as they know me, and met me on cruises before ) I am considering writing a blog, as many people quote me in their posts here on this forum. I always am chuffed when people quote me. Thanks for that. I was first with the breaking news about the downsizing of the casino on the Thomson ship, and will be able to reveal more exclusives on this board soon. I will update all of you on my decision regarding a blog about my cruises and thoughts. My gentle soul may yet reveal all;) watch this space. . Lucy The Rabbitt Posted March 4, 2015 #67 Share Posted March 4, 2015 Just called into my main Thomsons TA and they say there will be another announcement on the 15th April and on the 23rd April the itinerary for 2016 will be announced. davecttr Posted March 4, 2015 #68 Share Posted March 4, 2015 It was the music that made the Royal Observatory our favourite place on Majesty! It is good that Thomson have relaxing venues with classical music but IMO, a horizon/crows nest venue would satisfy more cruisers and certainly raise more revenue if it a duo such as ???? (Tom and Maris) performing. I remember tham as very popular. Horizons was always buzzing by late evening, something I have yet to experience in the Royal Observatory on Majesty.
