From March this year, Djurgårdsfärjan will have a new temporary terminal/berth at it's western end point at Slussen.

The new berth will be about 100m north of the current one.

 

This is due to the construction works that are going to carried out at and with the Slussen area.

We are arriving in Stockholm Saturday morning. Our hotel is the Comfort Hotel Stockholm on Kungsbron.

We have to board the ship during Sunday around noon but the ship stays overnight and only leaves on Monday afternoon around 4:00 PM.

I am trying to find the best itinerary to fit all the things and sites we want to see and minimize going back and forth. Could you please have a look at what I have planned and tell me if it makes sense in term of time management and travel.

Back to ship ( which bus back to Frihamnen?)

 

Monday AM:

Bus from Frihamnen to vasa Museum and ABBA museums (bus 76? any other bus? how long does it take? what time should I buy the Vasa tickets and what time the ABBA tickets?)(Is there a bus map and/or schedule for Stockholm buses in English?)

 

Monday PM:

Going back from ABBA museum to ship ( bus 76? is there another way?)

 

Please let me know if what I have planned make sense.

From hotel to Old Town (Royal Palace), fastest option is bus #53 which has a stop at Cityterminalen at Kungsbron (just outside your hotel I think).

Bus label is #53 Henriksdalsberget or Finnberget. #53 Fridhemsplan for the opposite direction

 

Sunday.

Bus #76 towards Norra Hammarbyhamnen, get off at Kungsträdgården.

I don't have any good advice on dinner.

It also depends on your budget, eating out in Stockholm is/can be very expensive.

Bus back to ship obviously depends on where you decide to eat dinner and etc.

Monday:

Yes bus is the best choice #76 towards Norra Hammarbyhamnen, get off at Djurgårdsbron, journey will take maybe 10 minutes.

You cannot buy/book tickets for Vasa so get there to when they open (08.30 Jun-Aug, 10.00 rest of the year).

For Abba, since you have plenty of time allow at least 2 hours for Vasa and 30 min walking to Abba museum.

The actual walk will only take 6-10 minutes but this will give you time to stop and enjoy the scenic route along the water.

From Abba, back to ship. Bus #76 from Djurgårdsbron to Frihmanen is the only option.

There is a commuter boat that goes from Nybroplan but the combination on it's stops at Allmänna Gränd (Djurgården) and Frihamen are very limited

in the current time table, not sure if it will be better in the spring/summer schedule. So it is likely not a viable option.

I guess if you feel that you have the energy you could always walk back to the ship but that would take quite some time.

For SL-travel card, I would recommend you to buy a 72-hour card which costs about 27 dollars. With this you can travel unlimited times during 72 hours.

27 dollars (230SEK) equals about 6-7 single tickets (single journeys) so I think it is well worth it and it is also very convenient.

You should be able to buy it at Cityterminalen which is located at the same place as your hotel.

Does it run on Sunday?

Is there another option than walking? Could we take the tram #7 and connect somewhere else?

3/ Is there anywhere to eat a quick bite between the Vasa and Abba museums?

4/ I saw a very good map of Stockholm bus route but I can't seem to find it, do you a link?

And the bus time table?

5/ Between the 72 hours Travel card and a standard SL card that we load money as needed, which one will be a better buy for the things and travels we planned?

I assume you mean the subway (T-bana) rather than tram.

From T-centralen to Gamla Stan (one stop) you can use either the red line on the upper level, direction Norsborg/Fruängen or the green line on the lower level , direction Hagsätra/Farstra Strand/Skarpnäck.

At Gamla Stan the red and green lines are on the same level, 4 tracks side by side at street level. To exit you need to go down the steps, cross the gates and then up again.

 

3/ Is there anywhere to eat a quick bite between the Vasa and Abba museums?

The Vasa museum has a lunch restaurant

 

4/ I saw a very good map of Stockholm bus route but I can't seem to find it, do you a link?

1/ If taking bus #1 from Hotorget back to Frihamnen on Sunday night, is there a specific direction we should be heading to? I noticed on the map Thule gave me that bus #1 seems to go East-West.

 

2/ Where can get the time table for bus 76, 1 ( and other buses)?

Does bus 76 runs everyday, even on weekend? It's a good thing to know it stops at 5:00PM on Sunday, that's the day we want to stay late in town for dinner and Ice Bar.

Does the bus 1 run more days/longer hours?

 

3/ From the Abba museum back to Frihamnen: take the tram 7 ( which direction ? or it doesn't matter) and connect with the 76 at Djurgardsbron. Then take 76 direction Norra Hammarbyhamnen back to ship, correct?

Can I take bus 67 and also connect with bus 76 at Djurgardsbron?

 

Sorry to ask so many detailed questios, I am just a very OCD person :-)

And regarding your Saturday trip from from the hotel to Old Town Desdichado's suggestion using bus 5#3 is probably the best as the bus stops near the hotel while it is a bit of a promenade to the T-central but I gave the subway info as well as it is always good to know the alternatives.

I just found out that it will only cost 400 sek for the 3 of us if we take the train.

Our hotel is located on Kungsbron 4 ( Comfort Choice Hotel).

 

1/Could you be so kind and give me some details regarding where to take the train from terminal 2? Do we have a long way to walk?

2/ Do we need to buy ticket in advance? Can we pay with a credit card ( Canadian card has PIN)?

3/ Which direction should we head to?

4/ Is there less train on Saturday morning? Is there a time table?

5/ Once we get to Central Station, is it easy to walk and find our hotel?

 

I saw a map of the terminal in Stockholm and it looks quite big with 2-3 different levels. I am worried that after a 14 hours overnight flight, we may be not in the best of shape :-)

1. I have never travelled to/from Arlanda by train so I don't know personally but there is info available at Arlanda website: http://www.swedavia.com/arlanda/to-from/train/

2. No you can by tickets from tickets machines at the airport if you wish, so it is down to you if you wish to buy tickets in advance or not.

3. Direction to what? If you mean train destination direction, the express train only go in one direction from Arlanda.

4- Time tables are not available for July yet but currently the first train departs Arlanda at 5 in the morning which I think should be earlier then your arrival. ;)

Central Station is the Central train station in Stockholm. This is where one boards the Arlanda express to/from the the airport (as well as many other trains - I believe that it is the largest railway station in Sweden).

T-bana is the subway (aka: underground, metro).

T-Centralen is the central subway station where all 3 subway lines meet. There is an underground passageway connecting Central Station to T-Centralen.

Cityterminalen is the main bus terminal.

To T-centralen from your hotel: exit hotel onto Kungsgatan - turn right (east). Take first right (east - onto Vasagatan) - T-centralen will be on your left - about 5 minute walk from your hotel. OR ... you can utilize the underground passageway from Central Station to T-Centralen.

I suggest that you use google maps to show the exact the locations of your hotel, Central Station & T-Centralen. All very easy to find & within a stone's throw of each other.

They are different but connected with each other since they indeed are located in the same place.

From your hotel, you should be able to walk through the Arlanda express entrance and walk all the way through cityterminalen to centralstation and t-centralen.

So from your hotel to T-centralen, you enter where it says Entrance Kungsgatan/Kungsbron, then walk all the way to the far end of Cityterminalen, take the escalator down to Centralstation (centralen) main hall.

 

In the main hall continue towards the central area to find the stairs down to the lower hall where you will find the passage to T-centralen.

So If I understood well, the Comfort hotel is located at the Kungsgatan end of the City terminalen on the map ( north end).

To go to the Arlanda Express, walk south the whole length of City Terminalen, tka ethe lift/escalator down to tracks 1-2 on the main level.

 

To go to T-centralen the hotel, go through City terminalen, down 2 level, and we'll be at the T-Centralen level.

 

So actually, there are 3 levels in total and the highest one and northest one is the City terminalen.

And the hotel is located on the same level than Kungsbron/Kungsgatan.

 

Now, I understand better.

So If I understood well, the Comfort hotel is located at the Kungsgatan end of the City terminalen on the map ( north end).

To go to the Arlanda Express, walk south the whole length of City Terminalen, tka ethe lift/escalator down to tracks 1-2 on the main level.

 

To go to T-centralen the hotel, go through City terminalen, down 2 level, and we'll be at the T-Centralen level.

 

So actually, there are 3 levels in total and the highest one and northest one is the City terminalen.

And the hotel is located on the same level than Kungsbron/Kungsgatan.

 

Now, I understand better.

There are more then three levels.

 

Vasagatan is considered street level (SL) so then you have:

 

SL+1 Centralstation and Cityterminalen upper levels (Kungsbron level)

SL Centralstation main hall + Cityterminalen lower level

SL-1 Centralstation lower level + T-centralen level 1 (I think these are at the same level but I am not sure)

SL -2 T-centralen level 2

SL -3 T-centralen level 3

Then below T-centralen you have new (not yet opened) commuter train station called Stockholm City station.

Desdischado's map http://kartor.eniro.se/m/5xglV also shows the subway system (dotted lines) and T-Centralen station quite well. There are three concentrations of entrances marked with a "T", each corresponding to a ticket hall. Those near the Central Station leads to the red and green lines located above each other at a depth of 9 and 14 meters with the train platforms located under the "Klara Kyrka".

Those between the City Terminal and Näringsdepartementet (the Economy ministry) leads 30 meters down to the blue line with its train platform located where it says "Wallgren & Parteners" on this map. All three lines (red-green-blue) have a common east ticket hall at Sergels Torg (the grey area on the map). And there as also a connecting corridor with moving sidewalks between the blue and red/green train platforms (i.e between "Wallgren & Partners" and "Klara Kyrka" on the map) so one can change train without having to move up to the ticket hall and back down. So think of the whole system as the letter "A" turned sideways with the top pointing Northeast.

I LOVE the maps... I am a very visual person so when you give me a mpa, I can understand quicker.

Important information during the time period mentioned below, the commuter trains between Stockholm-Nynäshamn will not go all

the way to Nynäshamn due to construction works with the rail way line between Nynäshamn and Stockholm.

 

Monday 27 june from 01.00 (am) – Monday 4 july from 01.00 (am) no traffic between Västerhaninge – Nynäshamn

and between Monday 4 july 01.00 (am) – Monday 8 August 04.00 (am) no traffic between Skogås – Nynäshamn.

 

The construction works will be finished this year so from December this year there shouldn't be any more disturbances after this year's work.

 

I am still awaiting info regarding replacement buses, if/how/when/where they will be running/departing and etc.

I am also waiting for a reply regarding the new floating walkway at Nynäshamn, where it will connect (northern end of the harbour) and

if there will be any transport from were it lands and to the railway station.

 

 

So until I have this info, the new thread will be put in hold.

My wife and I will arrive at Arlanda Airport on Thursday, July 28 at 17:30 and will be boarding our cruise ship the next day at 13:00 at Vartahamnen. Should we try for a hotel near Vartahamnen? Or take the Arlanda Express to Central Station and stay near there?

We probably won't be touring around Thursday evening after 2 flights, but may make time Friday morning to see a little of Stockholm.
