dogchopper Posted March 6, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 6, 2015 My husband and I are going on the Dream in May. The price hasn't been the greatest. Yesterday it was 599.00 for an interior (if they pick room) and today it was 569. It's 629.00 if you pick your own room:eek: So, I booked (well it's on a 24 hr hold) a room with them picking the room. I'd love to know what experiences people have had doing this. I've never not picked my own room so I'm nervous.
Frank12 Posted March 6, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 6, 2015 They put me right under the Lido pool deck. Daytime was fine but late at night the sound of dragging / stacking deck chairs woke us up every night. That was my second cruise and the only time I let them pick my room. Others on here have had great luck. I'm just not willing to take the chance again. It's pretty much a crap shoot. Good luck!:)
dogchopper Posted March 6, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted March 6, 2015 Oh no!!! I told my husband we may end up under the pool and he said, what's the big deal, they close the pool at night.., ugh
mrpayroll Posted March 6, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 6, 2015 You are going to get all sorts of replies. Truth is, you win some and you lose some. Depends on how popular the cruise is.
Drose716 Posted March 6, 2015 #5 Share Posted March 6, 2015 I've done an inside guarantee 2 or 3 times. Imagination we ended up with a very aft room on Main deck. 2nd Victory trip might've been guarantee & it was a midship room on main deck. Our upcoming Valor cruise we were just assigned a midship-aft near elevators on Empress Deck. I've been pleased with my room assignments to date. I told my husband we may end up under the pool and he said, what's the big deal, they close the pool at night.., ugh They drag and stack the chairs every night after midnight so they can mop the decks. It's pretty noisy. Don't panic. You have as good a chance of getting a great room as you do a not so great one.

RTRMom Posted March 6, 2015 #9 Share Posted March 6, 2015 We just got off the Dream last week. We booked an inside guarantee for $170. We were very lucky and got a great room on the Verandah deck in the middle of the ship. They assigned the room a few weeks out. We booked about 6-7 weeks out. dogchopper Posted March 6, 2015 Author #10 Share Posted March 6, 2015 Looks like more good experiences than bad!! That makes me feel better!! Im usually don't sail at peak times so I'm nip out used to paying so much so I went the cheapest way possible. I think it's gonna be a good choice
evandbob Posted March 6, 2015 #11 Share Posted March 6, 2015 Once I had an interior guar. and I was placed on the Verandah deck somewhat aft, not bad. Now I have a casino room booked and the only availability was way down on Main deck forward, yuck. Win some, lose some. If you're nervous now, go ahead and spend the extra to pick your room. The anxiety/worry isn't worth the savings.

Bsbllmom Posted March 6, 2015 #13 Share Posted March 6, 2015 We have had great luck with guaranteed staterooms. 1st cruise Imagination Empress deck middle interior. Second upper deck middle ocean view and last cruise was upper deck aft facing stateroom which was my favorite so far. I think I will always choose guarantee rooms. Except our cruise in April I wanted an aft balcony so we picked our room for that one. Enjoy your cruise!!
LucyR. Posted March 6, 2015 #14 Share Posted March 6, 2015 One time I was put in the very front cabin with a port-hole on the lowest deck and when the ship was moving the port-hole looked like a sudsy washing machine all the time. Every time the ship hit a wave I could hear it as a loud bump as if something was hitting the ship. The ship was rocking and rolling too. It was a beautiful cabin for 4 persons and I was by myself. The major flaw was that the shower had dirty water coming into the shower. The plumbers couldn't fix the problem. I decided to move out. I first asked the cabin steward if there was another empty cabin near by and he gave me the cabin number. I then personally talked with the Hotel Manager about the water problem. He said I could move to another cabin. I ran to the the front desk to get the new cabin confirmed and then I moved all of my things into the new cabin that was a better cabin for me. It was just plain luck I was having a water problem or I would have been stuck in that first cabin that I didn't choose. After that experience I chose to always choose my own cabin near an elevator and the location I want. My advise to you is if you find out in advance that you have been assigned to a lousy location...you should then call and ask for an upgrade and pay the money. If you have booked the lowest category level you have a really great chance of moving to a better location for just a few dollars more. Ships always want to make extra money even at the last few days before the ship leaves port.

Jenhem31 Posted March 10, 2015 #20 Share Posted March 10, 2015 We did this on the Breeze a couple weeks ago. We were on deck 8, aft. Interior room. It was our first interior and first time them picking our room. We were very happy with the location.
JulieMcCoy Posted March 10, 2015 #21 Share Posted March 10, 2015 I did an oceanview guarantee on my Valor cruise last month. Ended up lowest level, midship. I was very pleased, but had been prepared to get the least desirable OV on the ship. I did bring earplugs with me just in case it was a noisy room, but it was fine. I have also done an interior guarantee on another cruise line and got low floor, far forward. Probably not a highly desirable room, but we slept great, and the lower price was great! MCFTJCH2V Posted March 10, 2015 #22 Share Posted March 10, 2015 Only did it once, but knew what cabin I had when those archaic tickets arrived, and the code of how to decipher the room number was out of the bag.
