Do you take a passport when cruising to Alaska? this is our first Alaskan cruise and not sure if we really need to. We are US citizens.

I know you need a passport if you are going into the Yukon (Canada). We usually bring our passports on all cruises, never hurts.

I have a passport, so I always take it with me when I travel away from home. It's the easiest form of ID to use at airports, and boarding the ship.

But I don't necessarily take it with me when I go ashore in ports. Unless it's required to have it with me in a given country, the passport is either back in my cabin safe, or being held at the Front Desk.

If I didn't have a passport, and didn't otherwise need one for the cruise, I would be considering taking a calculated risk in not applying for one.
