Recommended Posts

This is my 1st RCI cruise . I have cruised with carnival and NCL , both great cruise lines. But I have been reading ALOT of bad reviews . dang, thought we were moving up but not sure now !?!?!

I read 99% of time you have to go to pool bar for service , no servers .

One ice cream machine . carnival has lots of them.

Lots of unpleasant workers.

should I be worried ? I mean I can have fun just about anywhere but we are paying a lot more for RCI just would like good service .

I'm getting ready to take my 35th RCI cruise later this month. Is it perfect? No, but I can tell you I haven't come home from one cruise saying to myself, I will never do that ever again.! I read these boards but I don't let it color my opinion. I go and have a great time, I don't set expectations, I don't go demanding perfect service, I go with an expectation of having fun and I always do! I can tell you I have not met any unpleasant crew members, if you are nice to them, they are nice to you. I have also cruised on Carnival, NCL and Celebrity and I will take RCI over all of them. Go and enjoy and forget what other people think, these boards are where people come to complain more often than not.

Best thing is to set aside any bad reviews you read, and walk onboard ready to have a good time. Each ship in a fleet has their own crew. We never compare ships but enjoy each one for what it offers. There will always be hic cups but judge your trip on what you enjoyed most and put aside the few little things that weren't right.

Ya know.........I'm going to take a flyer at this.

First, you say that you are very happy with Carnival and NCL..I think you used the words "both great cruise lines".

Now, you are stepping out of your "comfort zone" to try a different cruise line.

You are concerned with all of the Critics that say that Royal Caribbean is really going downhill. So that we are on an even footing, I wanted to point out that both the Carnival and NCL cruise line section of Cruise Critic, are about as equally dissatisfied with the cruise line that they have had more than one or two cruises with that line.

The industry as a whole, is evolving, and not to everyones satisfaction. Some one can fill in the blanks, but somewhere around just between 4 and 6 percent of the population have ever cruised.

The cruise lines are upping their price, and have cut back on service, all to the almighty dollar, and what that means on the stockmarket. All mass market lines are doing well, financially.

So, getting back to you, and your concerns of any Royal Caribbean product.

Since I started cruising with Royal Caribbean in 2003, over the years, there have been many changes, most setting a different tone that exists today. Royal Caribbean looks at company models, like Disney, that for the most part, will only experience a family two or three times, so goes for the first time customer.

So, should you be worried about stepping aboard any Royal Caribbean ships.......the answer......is NO! I think that of all the ships, in the mass market field, Royal Caribbean still comes up with a good product.

Under the new President, Michael Bayley, some of the items that had been taken away from the suites, will be coming back.

It's going to take a few months, but for many of us that have enjoyed the Royal Caribbean product in the past, will be enjoying it as well, if not better, in the future.:)

Rick

Good to hear ! I love good service but not demanding at all . I just enjoy meeting new people , having some cocktails by the pool and blowing money in the casino. :o

We walked 13000 steps daily on our awesome cruise, so a quick stroll to buy a drink at the pool bar was nice. And we chatted with the other happy fellow cruise passengers was fun! The drink of the day was fun to try also! Have an awesome day!

I have to agree with Rick, you will see just as much bitching on the other threads as here (maybe more). You will be a first time cruiser on Royal. If something is missing or changed will you notice? What you see here is us old time cruisers with lots and lots of cruises complaining about what actually amounts to little things in the big picture. Are we spoiled? Guess I'm the wrong person to answer that because I tend to bitch more than most. I think you will love it, don't worry so much. Your biggest worry might be that you can't go back to the other lines after Royal.:D

Oh don't get me wrong , don't mind going to pool bar, just would rather sit in my lounger and not have to go stand in line for 30 minutes ever time I want a drink . It's not that I'm lazy, I run 2-5 miles every morning on the cruise ship . ;)

I've never experienced that on any cruise line.

It's funny, 10,000 people can say they had a good/great cruise, on any cruise line. One person out of those say they have a terrible cruise on the same cruise lines. Wich comments do people fixate on? Just like the news.....bad things are always the headlines, never the good.

Another thing is a lot of people will not say they had a good time, however let one bad thing happen and they will tell the world.

Absolutely true. I've been on (heck, I don't actually remember) about 60 cruises. If you search CC for good things that I've said about any of them, good luck. But search for my complaints, you will find them. Not sure I like what this says about me but maybe it's just the common nature of all of us. Or at least I hope it's just not me:eek::o Did I actually enjoy most or all of the cruises, well what do you think. Would I have done that many if I didn't enjoy them?

We have been cruising with RCI since 1996. You will have a wonderful vacation. There have been many changes over the years. There will not be a pool server asking you every 2 minutes if you want a cocktail. You may have to go to the bar, but that's ok. You might make a new friend in line. Have a great time....happy sails to you.

One thing people do is compare so try not to say Carnival has this and RCCL doesn't, etc. (not being mean), Ships are different, What RCCL ship are you wanting to go on? Just trying to help - don't worry about the reviews, just learn from them where everything is located, show up early at shows, don't miss this and that, etc - just have fun :)

Hey, Paxs have complained and vilified the Quantum. But, I tell you it was the best 11 nights of cruising, other than the 12 niter in the Mediterranean, in my life. Enjoyed DD immensely and never had to wait in line to enter the restaurant(s). Sure there were hick-ups like the usage of those damn tablets which sometime could not find our reservations, but it was offset by othr technical wonders (wrist band), and the tremendous entertainment line up.

Sure! Pump it up now that it's going to China. Just throw fuel on the fire. [emoji4][emoji5]️[emoji6]

1st of all, enjoy your cruise. Have fun. Don't worry!:D

These forums are full of people who love their cruise line, will defend their choice to the ends of the world like its a family member, and then attack another cruise line they see as not part of their family.

Another words make up your own opinion. Go, enjoy.

We cruise all the major cruise lines, they are a little different, they all offer quality cruises, and more times then not it really is about 'getting the best bang for your cruise dollar'!
