euro cruiser Posted April 8, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 8, 2015 (edited) "Best" is an entirely subjective standard. What's important to you? Price, size of room, location, efficacy of the air conditioning, whether or not there's a free breakfast, size or type of beds, water pressure in the shower, etc. How can we possibly help you choose among the thousands of hotels and B&Bs in Rome without knowing what is important to you? As for the transport to the cruise, again what's important? Train is the least expensive but it takes work (dealing with your luggage, getting to and from the train stations) and it takes longer. texancruzer Posted April 8, 2015 #3 Share Posted April 8, 2015 (edited) I agree - please give us more info - budget etc……. Having said that - the "ideal" location is in the historic center. This allows you to walk to all the main sights as they are all located close together. The "primo" area for this is the Pantheon/Piazza Navonna area. Altho the Campo Fiori area, the Coliseum area and the Spanish Steps areas are popular too. They are convenient but not totally in the center Venere.com is the easiest website for searching - put in the area and the budget and lots of options will appear….. pick 2 or 3 that look good and then come back here and ask about those hotels…… As for getting to the ship from Rome, the train is cheaper but you must deal with luggage etc….. a private ride can be pricey however many people "share" a ride with others on their roll call….. I would check there first as this is the easiest option. Edited April 8, 2015 by texancruzer

kuldalai Posted April 9, 2015 #7 Share Posted April 9, 2015 We like Hotel Campo de Fiori or Hotel Smeraldo both in the same area close to Piazza Farnesse, Campo de Fiori, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, and Castel de St Angelo . Book direct via Hotel websites to avoid paying middleman commissions . Take taxi to Roma Termini station trains depart for Civitavecchia every 30 minutes approximately . Travel time 40 - 60 minutes. Walk out front of Civitavecchia station turn right down ramp and luggage friendly sidewalk approx 20 minute flat walk to Cruise port entry . Alternatively taxi from station to port entry, cost approx 15 euros 2 persons and luggage . From cruise port entry shuttle buses (free) take you to your ship .
