maggie3 Posted May 3, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 3, 2015 Am I correct in noticing that Cap Ferrat views seem to be all about the cliffs and the sea? Is there a quaint village to explore as well, or is it all modern hotels, resorts? Outside of Eze and St. Paul de Vence, can fellow travelers, please recommend quaint villages within an easy bus or train ride from the port of Monte Carlo? Rare marazul Posted May 3, 2015 #2 Share Posted May 3, 2015 Cap Ferrat is the town where the billionaires congregate. It has a small village and port with some nice restaurants. It also has three small beaches. There are no big, modern hotels and resorts. Only a couple of outrageously expensive small, luxury hotels. It is also where some of the most magnificent private villas in France are located. Unfortunately, they are all behind gates and tall hedges and you will not be able to get much of a glimpse at them. You would get a better view of them from the sea than from the streets. You will be able to visit the magnificent villa and gardens built by Ephrussi de Rotschild. Thoroughly enjoyed our time in the Villa Ephrussi gardens (all 9 of them)! You have Villefranche on one side and Beaulieu on the other. I didn't have time, but there is also a nature walk on the peninsula. It was very accessible via public transportation. Enjoy France! Chairsin Posted May 4, 2015 #4 Share Posted May 4, 2015 Try Villefranche -- it is just a few train stops out of Monte Carlo.
syesmar Posted May 5, 2015 #5 Share Posted May 5, 2015 (edited) Just wanted to add that if you take the bus, also print the schedule with the stops. Our driver didn't always stop unless the bell was rung, but knowing what stop was next helped. The bus was a very efficient way to visit this area. If you go to Villa Ephrussi, get off at the Passable stop. You will see a sign for the Villa close to the stop, go through that entrance and up the path to reach the complex.
