Eastern Caribbean - visas?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm a little confused with visa requirements for our upcoming cruise. I can clearly see the following:

USA- ESTA (VWP)

St Maarten - no visa required for Australians

Nassau- no visa required for Australians

St Thomas - here's where there's confusion, depending on what site I visit I'm either on the list waived for visa or on the list for needing a visa.

I'll make some calls tomorrow, but just wondering if there is anyone with recent experience who could provide some direction/advice.

Thanks :)

We visited St Thomas in 2012 and didn't need anything anything extra other than passport and ESTA.In fact once we had boarded at Ft Lauderdale we didn't need our passports again.Although we did carry them with us when we went ashore just ain case any official did want to look at them.

Visa requirements are different when you visit a country on a cruise ship, versus on a land holiday.

I visited St Thomas, on a cruise ship, and didn't need a visa.

In fact, I never carry my passport on shore, just my cruise card, which you need to get through security back on board the ship. Some ships keep your passport and don't even give it back to you until you disembark (or only occasionally, when a particular country requires to see you with the passport).

You can check this information with the cruise line.

  • 2 weeks later...
St. Thomas is one of the US Virgin Islands, not a separate nation.

Yeah, that's why I was confused because I knew that, just that one site I went to said I needed a visa.

Anyway, all sorted - thanks everyone. Flying out in 25 days and can't wait! :D
