jalmgiven Posted May 19, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 19, 2015 Hi there, This morning I just booked our All Aboard Steam Train excursion for our stop in Skagway Alaska. For those of you that have done it, does it matter which side of the train you sit on for the best views. Left side or right side? Or does it even matter? Shmoo here Posted May 19, 2015 #2 Share Posted May 19, 2015 Hi there, This morning I just booked our All Aboard Steam Train excursion for our stop in Skagway Alaska. For those of you that have done it, does it matter which side of the train you sit on for the best views. Left side or right side? Or does it even matter? Left side going up, right side going down. That's the side that is the "downhill" side. Better views across the various valleys enroute. That being said, the "other" side also has some really nice views. Kamloops50 Posted May 19, 2015 #3 Share Posted May 19, 2015 Hi there, This morning I just booked our All Aboard Steam Train excursion for our stop in Skagway Alaska. For those of you that have done it, does it matter which side of the train you sit on for the best views. Left side or right side? Or does it even matter? What usually happens is that conductor gets you to change side when you get to the top. That the both sides get to see the same views. I usually stand on the platform outside the coach during most of the trip.

Walt fan Posted May 19, 2015 #5 Share Posted May 19, 2015 What happens when you are doing only a return trip going back to Skagway? How do they board those people? We are doing a private tour til after lunch then catching the train. Was wondering how they seat us. Thanks!

Walt fan Posted May 20, 2015 #7 Share Posted May 20, 2015 Kamloop50 - have you heard anything on how it is different? I just like to have my ducks in a row. Thank you!
Kamloops50 Posted May 20, 2015 #8 Share Posted May 20, 2015 (edited) There are three different trains on the White Pass . There is one that goes to the Whitepass Summit and comes (approx 3-4 hours long). There is a train that goes all the way to Carcross and return by bus (see cruise line) There also are trains the go as far as Fraser . This is the train that is used in the Train/bus combination. summary 1 - Goes to summit and returns http://wpyr.com/excursions/product/ticket/summit-excursion/ 2 - To or from Fraser (Bus one way) http://wpyr.com/excursions/product/ticket/fraser-meadows-steam-excursion/ http://wpyr.com/excursions/one-way-train-trips/fraser-one-way-service/ 3 - To Carcross (Bus return) http://wpyr.com/excursions/product/ticket/bennett-scenic-journey/ Sometimes option #2 is part of option#3 . Passport is a must for option 2 or three. Edited May 20, 2015 by Kamloops50
Walt fan Posted May 23, 2015 #9 Share Posted May 23, 2015 Kamloops50 - thank you; I checked our ticket confirmation - we have the return trip from Frasier at 2:45; makes sense now; I guess we will board along with the bus tours.
