CaribbeanIsland Posted May 19, 2015 #3 Share Posted May 19, 2015 Ketchikan is your best bet. We have bought some near the pier. Sorry, don't remember the name. There is a tourism center you can ask in Ketchikan at the pier.
Rare martincath Posted May 20, 2015 #4 Share Posted May 20, 2015 Best price is your local Costco; best quality would be a local specialist fishmonger if there is such a beast near you. Unless you go and catch it yourself and therefore have some emotional investment in the specific fish, it's pointless buying it locally. You also have the benefit of being able to find fresh fish, not frozen or canned, by shopping at home. Check prices near you and bring that info with you so you can see if there is a deal to be had; if it's canned or smoked & vacuum sealed (any package that says it needs to be stored in the refrigerator is not a properly-smoked fish...) you can send it via USPS fixed-rate boxes for $18 or less (fresh or frozen will spoil as it takes too long to deliver). eclue Posted May 20, 2015 #5 Share Posted May 20, 2015 Last year, we went fishing in Juneau......I caught a salmon and had it shipped home along with some halibut......the cost was not worth it.......the salmon that I buy here in the local market is better!!!! Rare geoherb Posted May 20, 2015 #6 Share Posted May 20, 2015 When we were on the Sapphire Princess, a couple of young men who were on our whole cruise tour went fishing in Ketchikan and arranged for the galley to cook two of their fish. They had enough to share with our table, which was next to theirs. I wouldn't bother trying to ship fresh salmon home. Enjoy what you can while you're there.
