Chunder Worthy Posted May 27, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 27, 2015 Our itinerary indicates we are arriving in Athens at 4am and departing at 8pm. We want to take a licensed-guided bus tour and have two options: 7:30am to 1:45p, or 1:30p to 6:30p. I can't believe they'll disembark passengers in the dark at 4am but wonder if it would still give us enough time to make the 7:30am tour start. I'm a little wary of taking the latter tour for (small) fear of missing the ship. What would your opinion be?
SadieN Posted May 27, 2015 #2 Share Posted May 27, 2015 What time do the ship tours start? That's a good indicator.

GAWD you smart! ;-) Right -- they (the ship's excursions) appear to begin around 7:45am. That said, I have zero confidence we'll find our way into town to pick up their 7:30am morning guided tour. Afternoon tour it is. Thanks.
fishywood Posted May 27, 2015 #4 Share Posted May 27, 2015 With ports so relatively close to each other on Eastern Med/Greek Isles cruises the ship often is alongside the next day's port at midnight or 1 AM. And if cleared by the local authorities the gangway will be open. The next day you can expect many bleary-eyed crew members who gave up a night's sleep in exchange for a few hours on the town. Don't remember if the examples I have read about included Athens among those ports, but anyone up very early (or still up very late) can score some bonus time ashore. In Greece you will certainly find a tavern open.
