Jdpapillion Posted June 13, 2015 #201 Share Posted June 13, 2015 Thank you for the email address. I've sent my concerns along with a quote from your note which says quite a bit IMHO. "so ill thought out- europe is brilliant for overnights bur NOT the caribbean- I for one would not feel safe orcwish to pay for an excursion to a seedy bar when I can have luxury onboard! " Assuming correct email address listed is CONCERNS@celebrity. I sent one off too.
pbrady Posted June 14, 2015 #202 Share Posted June 14, 2015 NOT HAPPY AT ALL - We booked the March 6, 2016 Eclipse because of Bonaire. Instead we are missing Bonaire & stuck in Curacao overnight. Being in Michigan we have always taken the Eclipse in February - a great break from the cold. Since booking we have found both air & hotels are much more in March. We are thinking it is because of spring breaks. If the March 6th cruise did not have Bonaire - we would have gone in February as usual. Please don't say to switch as we booked on board and would lose all our perks. I agree with the one comment - once the cruise is posed for booking, there should be no changes (except maybe a hurricane, political turmoil...) The airlines are just as guilty - we have had times changed & seats changed as many as 4 times in one booking. I really don't like & hate that it is another bait & switch. janewe Posted June 14, 2015 #203 Share Posted June 14, 2015 That dates me too! My first game was in1959 when John Charles came back from Italy.I couldn't remember which island we missed but as I said it doesn't matter to us as we've never been to any of them. Also we're doing this cruise with the famous original Martini Mates 😜 It's a small world Paul. I had the honour of having John Charles guest play in our team in the over 30's Sunday morning League in Toronto. He must have been in his early 50's at the time but let me tell you, he could still play. Great guy, long gone now. R.I.P.

Rare 81Zoomie Posted June 15, 2015 #205 Share Posted June 15, 2015 Do you think there could be another reason X is dropping ports and doing RONs besides saving fuel? Could they be leaving some flex in their schedules in case Cuba opens up? They could go From "more overnights in the Caribbean" to "more stops in Cuba." Just a thought..... Having been to Cuba a half a dozen times, I can tell you they don't have the infrastructure set up for an influx of Cruise passengers. All this is as many as five years away. Don't dwell on it, it's a long way from being a reality.

Having said that, don't hesitate to ask Celebrity their definitive reason to spend up to 48 hours in a Port while giving up a previously scheduled and booked Port. Many are at a loss at that and if you could find out the EXACT reason from them, we would appreciate it. Thanks.

swigso Posted June 15, 2015 #209 Share Posted June 15, 2015 (edited) This is one of the things that is going to really set the cat amongst the Pigeons for those that don't want to go ashore at night, And to be honest having been to these ports several times I cannot for the life of me see why Celebrity think an overnight In Curacao is Modern Luxury, I have asked Celebrity this " but what concerns me is what is there to do onboard as the Casino and Shops will be shut whilst in Port. I have no desire to be out wandering Caribbean bars after dark. In Europe during the Summer Months it is light till about 9 or 10 pm Plus there is plenty to see and do, Caribbean Islands no thanks." I obviously concur with the comments about European destinations....it's worlds apart in so many ways. but as I've said before on this forum, it's not really going to make any difference to us plus I only go through the casino to get to another part of the ship........if there's one thing I would happily do without, it's a Casino! waste of good floor space....then Celebrity could have room for a proper dance floor, so us proper dancers could do some proper dancing instead of shuffling around the circular postage stamps found on most modern cruise ships! :D:D:D
swigso Posted June 15, 2015 #211 Share Posted June 15, 2015 I'm sure you will find a nice place to dance the night away Ashore, 😜more than likely it will have to be that darn Martini Bar again:D:D😎👍🏻

Drinking and dancing don't go very well together, especially when you add in the slight movement of the ship
mikeysed Posted June 15, 2015 #213 Share Posted June 15, 2015 I never thought of that... In port they will have to close the shops and casino........ Why would they do that, it's less money for Celebrity... or will they stay open?
Lilith Posted June 15, 2015 #214 Share Posted June 15, 2015 they will not stay open. I spoke with Celebrity on Friday and asked that question and they said it is maritime law that they have to remain closed while in port. They did say that they will have several new touring options for the evening hours, sunset cruise included. I also asked about the evening onboard entertainment and was told the cruise director is working on that! I actually had written them per the link someone posted on this forum to let them know how unhappy we were and they called me to discuss. No reason for the change given. Just wanted to let me know they respond to customer's concerns. Whatever

I only bring it up, because Celebrity worked out a deal with the Bermudan authorities so that the casino could still operate (limited hours), during Summit's 2-night stay there. The answer could be Yes. Maritime Law most likely stipulates that even a foreign-flag vessel is subject to the laws of the local jurisdiction. So you would need to get a liquor license, casino license, set up arrangements for tax collection at the shops, etc. If a ship were to overnight in New Orleans or Galveston or Long Beach or Seattle, fat chance they would be allowed to operate a casino unless the ship were also an Indian reservation. Which actually might be an interesting idea...

janewe Posted June 16, 2015 #219 Share Posted June 16, 2015 So do the casino and shop staff get a night off? No one seems to know, we remain in the dark, just like these Caribbean over nights. As one poster mentioned, some of the new over night Islands have Casinos so they would not be pleased at the Casino being opened on the Ship. Having said that, it would be difficult to believe if a Ship is docked at a Port for two days that they haven't been given a special licence. We still have had no word from Celebrity or our T.A. regarding the removal of a Port so we are in the dark on that also. It would appear from our Roll Call that we are far from being alone in that regard.

Like you Paul, not an issue for me, the stock market is enough of a gamble : ) but I can't see my brother and wife on the Cruise with us being happy with that. It's still a few months before we sail and it would not surprise me due to adverse feedback and passenger experience that they will retract this dubious change to what was booked. janewe Posted June 16, 2015 #223 Share Posted June 16, 2015 Just check the current itinerary on their website. No need to remain in the dark. Wrong choice of words, you are correct. I do know through C.C. but not from Celebrity. I don't think many would think to go to the Celebrity site to look for changes in the itinerary, they would assume what they booked and payed for was what they would get. Of course as I now know, that's a wrong assumption. Going forward, I will check back on a regular basis. Perhaps in the late Fall, early Winter they will reinstate the lost Ports.
