Least expensive beach day?

What is the least expensive beach day we can have in Roatan?

We are on Carnival, so should we just stay in Mahogany Bay?

Or are drink/food prices so high there that it makes sense to get a taxi elsewhere?

Where do you recommend?

We want to be able to get a chair, grab some food/drinks (we have one person who is a heavy beer drinker, but the other 2 we're looking at only a few drinks all day- so probably not an all inclusive type group), and snorkel.

Budget is the name of the day!

Least expensive day will be at MBCC. Prices aren't unreasonable and I think beer (Honduran beer) is less than typical bottles on the ship. Certainly not more. Even if you found a spot on the beach in West Bay with say $1 lower per bottle cost, you've wiped out any savings on anything less than a case by the cost per person of the transportation to get there from Mahogany Bay.

Not sure of your other itinerary outside Roatan and Coz, but in Costa Maya, you do not want to stay in the port. Prices are much lower along the malecon in Mahahual and taxis are cheap there. In Grand Cayman, you'll find beer is expensive everywhere. GC can be one of the more expensive places in the Western itinerary. Belize, the beer is relatively cheap both on the tender pier and at bars in Belize City or stops on excursions to ruins and cave-tubing. Not sure about snorkeling excursions to smaller cayes, but beer isn't expensive on Caye Caulker if you hit Wish Willys, Terry's or the Lazy Lizard.

Thanks for the advice. Roatan needs to be cheap because Coz/Belize will be more expensive for us.

We aren't going to Costa Maya (though I have researched the port- and like you said, we plan to go to Mahahuel) in case the ship diverts due to weather (a few reviews said they went there instead of Roatan.)

Belize we are going cave tubing. BIL is just going to have to deal with a day of no/light drinking :)

Depending on who you are using for your cave-tubing adventure, there'll likely be a restaurant stop. There's one at the site. And then when you get back to the tender pier, there are a couple of bars along the pier, the more popular one being the Wet Lizard. Beers are relatively inexpensive but there's only one brand, Belikin. They do make some different styles.

Similarly in Roatan, you'll find the most popular beer to be Salva Vida, a lager similar to Bud or Miller. There's a nice dark pilsner, Imperial, and a regular pilsner, Port Royal, that are not too bad but stay away from their light beer, Barena. It's bad. All brewed by the same company and should all be about the same price.

If you go to Mahogany Bay, I don't believe you'll see anything much when you snorkel. To save money, you can walk back to the ship for lunch, cool off a bit, and head back to the beach since it's only about a 10 minute walk. Last year, we shopped in the morning, went ziplining across the street, ate lunch on the ship, and then went to Mahogany Bay beach. By the time we got there (maybe 2:00), lots of people were going back to the ship and there were plenty of front row chairs on the beach. :)

Since you're on a Carnival cruise, you'll be docked at Mahogany Bay.

Certainly the least expensive since there is no cost to enter and the beach chairs are provided at no addition charge.

Unless you buy/rent something there, it's FREE! :D

At the far end of the beach at MB there is a wooden dock where you can snorkel and see some fish. There is also a grassy area more to the center of the beach where I have seen small turtles, crabs and conch. Its about 30 feet into the water.
