Years ago, NCL had a daily free pull on a special slot machine in the casino. The big prize was a one week cruise for two on any NCL ship and the other prize was a free dinner for two in any specialty restaurant.

We were on the Dawn and I did the daily free spin in the casino. One day, I won the week cruise for two. Another day I won a dinner for two in a specialty restaurant and another day I won the dinner for two in a specialty restaurant.

I had a lucrative week on the Dawn!!!

We have won LOTS more than that....and never been given the option of having a check issued or money wired back home. And it is $10,000 per PERSON, so if each of you carry $10,000......you do not have to declare with customs.

I work for CBP, so I feel that it's necessary to correct you, so that no one who takes your advice gets into major doodoo! It is NOT $10,000 per person, it's $10,000 per FAMILY (or you and whomever is traveling with you on the same declaration). So if you and your hubby/wife win $9k each ($18k total between the two of you) and try to avoid declaring it by rationalizing it as you only personally having $9K, you can get into some major problems, including having your funds seized. It's called "structuring," btw.

Per the CBP website:

Please be aware, if persons/family members traveling together have $10,000 or more, they cannot divide the currency between each other to avoid declaring the currency.

For example, if one person is carrying $5,000 and the other has $6,000, they have a total of $11, 000 in their possession and must report it on a FinCEN 105. If a person or family fails to declare their monetary instruments in amounts of over $10,000, their monetary instrument(s) may be subject to forfeiture and could result to civil and criminal penalties.
