We are taking a New England cruise this fall and staying in New York for 4 days before the cruise. Any recommendations for a place to get a couple bottles of wine to take on the ship? We are staying at the W Hotel on Broadway.

Assuming you know your cruiseline's policy on taking wine abroad - corkage fee & free allowance, etc. - this is one of the nearest one to the MCT & within walking distance, especially on a nice Fall/September morning, or pick it up ahead of time. It's open 7 days a week, some others in the area are closed on Sunday or if open, from 12 noon on to closing.

Ray & Frank Liquor Store is on 9th Avenue, between W. 48th & W. 49th Street if you will be heading toward the Manhattan Cruise Terminal ?? and plan to walk the area. Please call them ahead & confirm their hours, etc.

706 Ninth Ave #1

New York, NY

Reidy Wine and Liquor, between 46th and 47th Street - it's closer to the W.

762 8th Ave New York, NY 10036

Monday - Saturday 9am to 11pm

Sunday 12pm - 8pm

Yes, we are able to bring 2 bottles on board at embarkation. We are traveling from California to New York, so of course, we don't want to carry 2 bottles with us from home. We are boarding the ship at Cape Liberty, but wanted to find some place close to our NY hotel, since we will be there for 4 days prior to the cruise. Thanks for your choices!!

Ray & Frank's seems to have slightly better reviews, and I believe it has an actual web page.

One thing to keep in mind in NYC, especially coming from California, is "most" liquor stores in Manhattan, even the really good ones, don't look like much from the outside. A couple of my favorites (not near the W) that are listed in Whisky Advocate and the like look like crap, but have amazing selections and at least a few folks on staff who know their product cold.
