Hotel in Houston or Galveston before Cruise??

Booked on a cruise in November. We will arrive the day before at Hobby.

 

Any suggestions on whether it would be better to stay the night in Houston and take a shuttle to Galveston the day of the cruise OR take a shuttle directly to Galveston and stay at a hotel there?

 

Hotel suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. :)

If you are in late and need to crash stay in Houston.

If you have some time come on down there is a lot to do in Galveston.

If you are coming in first weekend in November , there is Lone Star Motorcycle Rally with 400,000 + visitors in 4 days of your best friends. Rooms will be sky high.

We will probably arrive in Houston early in the day on November 12th, a Thursday.

 

Any suggestions on a nice, middle priced hotel in Galveston that is close to the port? Any awesome places to eat dinner?

The only hotels near the port are The Tremont and Harbor House. Others are either on the Seawall, a few lower end coming into town or at Moody Gardens. Check one of the hotel sites for rates. There are numerous restaurants in Galveston from fast food to white table cloth with a wide range of prices. Some favorites are Rudy & paco's (reservations a must), Saltwater Grill, Riondo's, Trattoria La Vigna, sky Bar, Gumbo Bar. Check out Galveston.com for places and menus.

As for a restaurant, my husband and I love to start a cruise vacation off with a great meal the night before...would you recommend Rudy and Paco's?

Our expected arrival will be early on Thursday the 12th of November. :)

This is Lee and Mary from our Holy Land Cruise, but

we will be on Liberty repo Jersey Carribean Galveston arriving the 13th

and I was going to say we could get together on Sat, if it would have been another weekend. Sorry we will

miss y'all. We do live in Galveston.

Hi!! You'll be getting off just as we are getting on the Liberty! Stay on another 9 days and we can have a good time! :D

Hotel around Houston is half the price of Galveston, most decent ones there are about 300 and some will not allow just a 1 night stay, We booked Hilton on Galveston a couple of years ago for 120 and now they want 300. So we booked Doubletree by Hobby for about 100, nice place with restaurant, bar and lounge

Was this during peak season? I now during summer, hotels are very high & some require 2 night stay on the weekend.

Timing of vacation is everything in hotel pricing in Galveston.

You can not make blanket pricing statements.

And if you would like to extend your vacation some , Galveston has so much to do and enjoy!

Galveston is a tourist destination!!

You may want to do some looking around on your transport options, because that may affect your choice for where to stay. How are you planning to get around? I found that most shuttles to Galveston are pretty expensive, especially if you only have a couple people.

I was looking at weekend after Thanksgiving and also last weekend in April, seems like most od the better hotels like Hilton and San Luis required 2 nights

Thank you for the suggestions. That gumbo bar sounds amazing. Is it casual enough to bring kids?
