Kroger Carnival Gift Cards

Was going to purchase about $500 worth to get the 4x gas points. But I didn't think about this, but if you don't use it all, you don't get the money, it will go back on the card, to be used only with Carnival, right?

But if I get $500, apply to my account, that will go for anything I want right? Tips/Alcohol/Gambling? I just need to make sure I am going to spend that much on the ship. Just saying ;)

Oh really? Are you sure that will work since they are gift cards? And the casino will give you cash back? Thank you.

Most likely you will use it all. But if not, you can cash it out at the casino. Go to a slot machine, upload the money from your S&S, then cash out your card at the casino window

If they are like other gift cards, just enter them on the kiosk on the ship and the amounts will be applied to your S&S card. If you still have a balance on the last day, go to a slot machine, transfer the amount to the casino account, and then cash out at the casino.

Yes we had to do that last cruise. You just load it to your bank and then go to the cashier. Very easy.

We've got a family cruise booked on the Conquest with our daughter and niece. We recently had a discussion about purchasing Carnival gift cards. Since neither our daughter or niece cruise as often as we do, my suggestion to them was to estimate as best as they can what they think they'll spend on board (souvenirs, cocktails, etc.) That way, hopefully they won't end up with a large deficit or credit at the end of the cruise, and come out pretty close to even. I suppose, if either or both of them does wind up with a credit and gets their refund back on a gift card, we could buy the gift cards from them to use towards our next cruise. :)

If you put the gift card on your S&S card, would any credit even go back on a gift card? Wouldn't a refund check just be sent after the cruise if there is a credit? As opposed to getting cash through the casino.

I'm not sure if you would get the check or a gift card back. I got a gift card back when I used a gift card to pay for my excursion, pre cruise. I asked them just to post it as obc, but they said they couldn't and fedexed me a $26 gift card. Not a smart $ decision on their part

I'm not sure what the criteria is regarding how a refund is issued. For a cancelled Carnival excursion, paid by gift card, we got the refund on a gift card. For our recent cruise, we made payments with gift cards. After the cruise, we got a check for $11.58 from Carnival. Not sure what it was for. My guess is there was some sort of reduction in port fees or taxes.

Definitely IS a smart decision on their part, because a gift card can only be spent with Carnival.

From everything I've seen reported on here, balances that aren't cashed out when a gift card was used, you get another gift card mailed.

Over my time reading about the gift cards, I have seem different experiences reported relating to balances remaining on a S&S account. Any one of these could happen.

  • Cash it out at the Casino
  • Cash it out a Guest Services
  • Receive a refund check in the mail following the cruise.
  • Receive a gift card with the balance after the cruise.

If you are cruising with Carnival again in the future, any of these would work. If you want cash back, I would recommend trying to cash out at the casino or kiosk before the last night of the cruise or try closing your cash account on the last night.
