CAS upsells and/or upgrades?

I've gone on about a dozen NCL cruises through CAS and have never been offered a free upgrade, but they will tell you what your cost is for you to upgrade to a higher category. These are using certificates for cruises from CET (landbased Caesars casinos). Just be aware that any promos that are currently going on will be based at your original awarded category.

Suggest you call the CAS desk and ask. They are really helpful and don't seem to mind checking out other options for you. Or there might be someone else here on the boards that has information on this? (We have been perfectly happy with balconies so haven't tried for anything other than a large aft balcony.)

I would say it all depends on your comp level. I was worried about maintaining at least ocean view on my last cruise and when I called to confirm with my CAS rep, she told me I actually moved up quite a bit to an SE or an H9 level. Basically, I jumped over Balcony and Mini Suite....completely surprised me! Needless to say, I am now booked in an SE for November. :)

So that would mean you are getting your cruises based on your on board play? There are really two types of comped cruises. I get mine based on my land-based play through CET. My cruises are based on what they choose to give me and I'm SevenStar with them. On board CAS I am 'Hot', but they don't offer me free cruises.

As TR seven star you are able to take the discount on rooms and book any category you like with the discount (which usually works out better since you get all promos attached and can still monitor for price drops). CAS direct no longer discounts suites but you can pay to upgrade from any full comp to a suite.

INSIDES TO PENTHOUSES

(SE TO SJ AND H9)

Seven Stars - 30%

Diamond - 20%

Platinum - 10%

PENTHOUSE SUITES & ABOVE

(SD TO S1 AND H8 TO H1)

Seven Stars - 20%

Diamond - 10%

Platinum - 5%

Now you've done it! I want to get to your comp level. We started using certificates from TR. But we've played enough on NCL, that we just call CAS and tell us what we can get. Currently we get ocean view, and upgrade to balcony. We can get comped most places like the Caribbean, Europe and Alaska, but not the Baltics. They have never called about a upsell though.

You've really moved up. If it's not too confidential, how many points do you average on one cruise? Between me and my wife we're around 4000.

If I were you, I'd call the CAS number and see if you qualify for a comp. They've never sent me anything. I just call. The numbers right on their site.

After playing in the casino on a NCL cruise, you should def call CAS direct and see what they offer. CAS always offers us better cabins than the land based certificates from either Harrah's or Golden Nugget.

On my Breakaway cruise I got 7,500 points or so. Mainly on video poker, but a little on slots. On my previous cruise I got about 4,500 points and was told about the increase on ocean view comp level of theo loss to $2,800. I wanted to make sure I got there on this last one, and upped my play by about $1,000 (from 3500 to 4500). The rest was just throughput. I had a few more winners in the the 300-1000 range on this one, and just kept playing. Also, not sure how much it really matters with the theo calculation, but I got better vibes/conversations with the hosts this time than on the previous sailing. I don't know if I can keep my points at that level since I had a better than 15x throughput rate, but at least I know if I want to stay at this level about how many points it will take. :) Good luck and happy sailings!

Thanks! That helps. Although, as you know getting another 3500 4000 points really depends on the payouts you're getting. If they let us play, we play. Otherwise, we can't just keep pulling out the bucks, if all they do is take it. There is no good money for bad.

It never pays to 'play' for a comp. Play simply because it's what you want to do with the amount of money you want to. But to play for a comp, to me, is silly, at this point. More so, because the comps are becoming harder to get and the perks are not as good as they used to me. They keep saying they're getting better and will be more....but in my experience - since 2010 they've become less, not more.

Harriet, I agree for the most part. However, coming from Colorado, I usually only get to cruise 2 or maybe 3 times a year......I won't break the bank to hit a level, but if I am close, it works out better for me to make sure I get to the level I need since it will likely be 6-9 months before I get another shot at it. :) I use the same theory when gaming in Vegas, but when it comes to our casinos here in CO, I never play for any levels or comps, since it is only a 45 minute drive to go back another time if needed.

Is it also true that you can no longer upgrade any higher than a mini-suite? In 2012 I paid to upgrade to a Penthouse Suite. Is that no longer available?

Booked a Christmas week cruise on the Star through CAS this week. We were comped an inside cabin; I asked the rep to price the other categories. We ended up taking an upsell to a mid-ship mini-suite for $1,000 additional, so the final cost of $1749 (including taxes, port fees and the ultimate beverage package surcharge) is less than half the price of what it would be to book the cruise through NCL.com I asked about a penthouse suite, the upgrade price was prohibitive and not much less than booking the cruise direct.

One promotional choice (ultimate beverage package) was included, as was a $100 onboard credit. So, we feel like we got a great deal.
