NCL ship time or port time?

I always get so confused by this...when our ship for example, says it will be in St. Thomas from 8-6, are they operating on ship time or port time? We are cruising out of Miami and i would like to book a day sail with New Horizons that goes from 10-4.

99% of the time port time is ship time and ship time is port time -- they are the same. When your itinerary says 8 AM to 6 PM, you will be there those hours, local time.

I always go by ship time. If the time aboard ship changes, you WILL receive a written notice on your bed when the room steward turns it down for you in the evening.;)

I check the time on the phone in the cabin and ensure I match that on my watch

There are not a lot of clocks on board a ship in common view.

The most commonly found ones are in the lobby of the registration desk;

the in cabin TV channel 2 (may vary by ship and cruise line); and as noted

in the last post above a phone dialed anywhere on ship.

 

For 99.99 % of the time when you leave the ship on a shore excursion the

time does not change. So when the ship sails off into the sunset it will be

sailing/leaving at the same time it is on land at the dock/berth and at the

pub where if you stay long enough you are going to miss the sailing.

 

As a side note if you hear the ships horn bellowing - me thinks that you

should be on board - a not so discrete summons for your presence.

If a large contingent of cruisers has not boarded the ship the ships horn

will get rather impatient and it is such a thrill to be on board looking at

all the stragglers in a mad dash racing to get on the ship. It is so much fun !

 

So simply put ship and port time are the same but don't use a sundial for

your clock timepiece. There is no Mickey's Big Hand and small hand on the

sundial.

Requirement for cruise passengers - SET WATCH 1 HOUR AHEAD i.e.

from 6AM to 7AM.

 

Doing the reverse SET WATCH 1 HOUR BEHIND i.e. 6AM to 5AM.

You're both wrong as your answers are incomplete. The correct answer depends on whether Daylight Savings Time is being utilized in Miami on the date in question.

 

Miami is in the Eastern Time Zone. St. Thomas is in the Atlantic Time Zone...BUT...St. Thomas does not utilize Daylight Savings Time. (Nor does any island in the USVI.)

 

So, when Daylight Savings Time is being utilized in Miami there is no time difference between Miami and St. Thomas, but when Standard Time is being utilized in Miami, St. Thomas is one hour ahead of Miami.

During the summer there is no difference in time between St Thomas and Miami. Google the time in St Thomas It will show the current time. In the winter, yes there is a difference. I do not appreciate being corrected for something I have posted that is absolutely correct.

Please show me where the OP said when they were cruising.

 

The answer was incomplete and hence possibly incorrect because it would only be correct during the months when Daylight Savings Time was being observed in the US.

 

If the cruise takes place when Miami is observing Eastern Standard Time, there is a one hour difference between Miami and St. Thomas.
