Do they use MagicBands on the ships?

My boss is going on her first cruise, an Eastern Caribbean, on the Disney Magic in May. She has been asking me tons of questions, as I've cruised a number of times before, but never on Disney.

 

She wanted to know if the ship uses MagicBands like you have at the Disney Resorts, as opposed to the swipe cards used on other cruise lines.

No Magic Bands on the ships. Only the Key to the World card (room key, charge card).

Kids in the secure programming do wear bands that look like the magic bands but function as locators within the the programming area. By giving the computer a name or number, it will tell where (which room and area) that band is located. In addition, the band is scanned when a child enters or leaves the area.

 

But no, for all the functions that use bands at WDW, the ship uses the KTTW card.

Last I heard they were looking at 2018 or so to implement that tech on the ships and Castaway... There are still a lot of issues and the ROI of additional spend is not there.

 

Watch for when another Disney system gets them and start a 2 year clock from there, in my book.
