DarthGrady Posted July 6, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 6, 2015 I had an opportunity to take a two night cruise on the Grand Celebration this past weekend. Some of the long time Carnival cruisers around here will remember her as the former M/S Celebration. She was a Carnival new build back in the 80s, and was last doing cruises out of Jacksonville before being renovated and sent to Ibero Cruises in Europe. Well she's back home in Florida, replacing the Bahamas Celebration out of West Palm. I did a pictorial review on her, I figured some folks over here might be interested in seeing her again. douglinc@msn.com Posted July 6, 2015 #5 Share Posted July 6, 2015 Wow, that brought back memories. The Carnival Celebration was our 1st. cruise and we sailed her a few more times later. We also had one of the "porthole" cabins. I don't remember the # but I think it was the 2nd. or 3rd. from the front on the starboard side. My wife saw her down in Freeport or Nassau a few months back, we were wondering if the old Trolley Bar was still there. She is still one our favorite ships. Thanks for the memories. KellyW25 Posted July 6, 2015 #13 Share Posted July 6, 2015 The Celebration was my first Carnival cruise, had to be late 1993 or early 1994. It was also my first vacation without my parents. We had a blast!
islandatsea Posted July 6, 2015 #14 Share Posted July 6, 2015 Thanks for posting. Celebration was my first Carnival cruise in 1994 back when they had the Rum Swizzle Party by the casino area. Don't remember what year that ended.
meanjean80 Posted July 6, 2015 #15 Share Posted July 6, 2015 (edited) Looks like the Celebration was A LOT of folks' first cruise! I remember thinking how massive the ship was...and then in Cozumel we pulled in next to the (then brand-new) Destiny! SeeBurd Posted July 6, 2015 #16 Share Posted July 6, 2015 I almost went on the Celebration. But she embarked on a Saturday, and we needed a Sunday, so we went Jubilee. We also almost did the Holiday as well, but a snowstorm kept that from happening. That still happens to be my favorite class of ship. Nice to see all three are still sailing

DarthGrady Posted July 6, 2015 Author #20 Share Posted July 6, 2015 Thanks for posting. Celebration was my first Carnival cruise in 1994 back when they had the Rum Swizzle Party by the casino area. Don't remember what year that ended. I don't remember that from my cruise in '99, and the one in '05 definitely didn't have one.
Butterbean1000 Posted July 6, 2015 #21 Share Posted July 6, 2015 I took my first cruise on the Celebration which started my addiction to cruising. This ship holds a special place in my heart. She sure looks different, but I am glad she is still making memories for people. Thank you for posting.

She's already dodged the scrap yard once, and is now cruising in China. I hope to see her again someday, but I doubt that will ever happen. islandatsea Posted July 7, 2015 #25 Share Posted July 7, 2015 I don't remember that from my cruise in '99, and the one in '05 definitely didn't have one. Hi Grady, Just like the Carnival's Voyage Videos that the Celebration had on sale during my cruise during 1994. You could pick out what activity the crew had taped, VHS of course ;), and the tape I have is of the Rum Swizzle Party, Singles Party in the disco, and Trunk Bay while docked in St Thomas was some of the things I selected to have on my VHS Tape. In 1995 I was on the Fascination Southern Itinerary from San Juan and think the Swizzle party was on that one too. I need to get that VHS tape transferred to DVD. The Rum Swizzle Party drinks was not that good anyway but made for a fun time around the casino area. Not sure what year Carnival discontinued that function. I agree that those parties were not around in the early 2000's. Thanks once again for your review and pictures of the former Celebration.
