Korcula, Croatia

Recommended Posts

Our ship docks here and there doesnt seem to be much to do in Kefalonia. Has anyone been to this port? Is this a good place to just wander around ? Is it a good place to hire a fishing boat or what is there to see and do?

We were there on an independent land tour. We drove (via ferry) from Split and spent the night and then drove (via another short ferry ride) to Dubrovnik the next day. There were three cruise ships in port but they all left in the early evening.

There is a great little town just to wander around in. There are some interesting shops and restaurants.

Be sure to visit the Marco Polo museum. He was from Korcula which was part of Venice at the time.

We also visited Korcula on a land tour, several years ago. There is a lovely old town. Small, but delightful to just wander around. Many restaurant options.

We stayed in Korcula 2 nights and had a half day tour to other parts of the island. Pleasant and picturesque but nothing startling.

We are visiting there next month and have booked a tour with Korcula Explorers. The following is the description of the one we chose.

Enjoy a leisurely boat trip around the beautiful islets lying off the coast of Korcula Town with time to swim & snorkel at two beautiful spots in the channel surrounding the islets. For lunch your host Mario will prepare tasty fish with seasonal vegetables/salad and if you fancy catching your own lunch, why not opt for the additional fishing option.

I found the communication to be excellent. If you trip adviser them you can read their reviews. Hope this helps.

I have been wondering the same thing - we are also docking here in August. I wonder are their any nice beaches near the main town to relax on after doing a bit of walking around there.

Its a great place, but if you take a boat trip, just choose carefully. We ended up on a nudist only beach 😱

We actually like the island but have no love of the port city. The island has plenty of charms and a first time visitor is probably well advised to book a tour (we prefer private over cruise line excursions). On our last visit (a HAL cruise) one of our fellow passengers organized a great private tour. She actually rented an entire bus for only about 25 passengers (who she found on the CC Roll Call). We drove a long way that day, went to several highlights on the island and visited a winery that specialized in a wine called "Grk" which is an interesting white wine not found anywhere else in the world.

It is actually picturesque island with plenty of natural beauty. If we ever return it will probably be on one of our extended land trips when we would spend a few days on the island with a rental car.

Hank

P.S, Unfortunately we missed the nudist beach (mentioned in the previous post) :(
