Can anyone tell me which port we dock at in Roatan. We docked at different ones when we were on Carnival and Royal Caribbean and just trying to figure out what we want to do.

Port Of Roatan, see link. Others dock at Mahogany Bay

Thanks Laszlo but when we were on a carnival cruise we docked at a place that had an amazing port and then the next time we were on Royal and docked where there was nothing much there. Do you have any idea which one NCL docks at?

NCL and other cruise lines dock at Coxen Hole, carnival group companies dock at their privately owned mahogany bay terminal. There are a few shops at Coxen hole or you can get a taxi to the other malls on the island

NCL docks at Port of Roatan (Coxen Hole). Correct, not much to do there.

The best thing in Coxen Hole is the Maya Key resort. (booked through NCL, about $59) it is relaxing, and a full day if you like. They set an hour and a half for your ship for the buffet lunch, there were three ships in town the day we were there. We never felt crowded. The bar is the only bottleneck and the longest wait was 10 min. I felt prices were good. We all had a good day.... It is easy to take an early return to the ship if yo want, but we took the last. It literally drops you at the gangway. The 'port shops' are sparse and pricey. A few reasonable things but no cheap booze etc.

Haven't been in Coxen Hole since February, 2006. At that time, it was a charming little village with authentic craft shops instead of the cookie cutter shops at Mahogany Bay. There were several tour companies at the dock; we (two couples) selected one with a driver and a guide in a Toyota mini van and had a tour of the northern part of the island as far as the road was navigable. The guide was a fascinating lady with an extensive knowledge of the island and it's history. We learned that despite being part of Honduras, Roatan's official language is English, primarily because the island was settled by English pirates.

I believe the souther part of the island at that time was largely resorts and housing developments for expatriate Americans; we didn't go there

We'll be back in Coxen Hole for the first time since then in November of this year; it will be interesting to see what's changed.
