othersomethings Posted July 26, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 26, 2015 I love tipping our MDR staff they are always amazing. This time we decided on ATD since we won't have any kids with us and want to be as carefree as possible - how does the waitstaff and tipping work for that? SadieN Posted July 26, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 26, 2015 Gratuities will be charged to your shipboard account. $12.50/pp/pd. Covers room stewards, MDR and buffet waitstaff. Does not cover room service.

When you enter the dining room, they will ask for your cabin number. They make a note of it and therefore, the waiters who served you get allocated their portion of the tips. They'll take your cabin number and route it that way. Have never figured out what they do with your tips for the nights you don't go to the MDR. bury me at sea Posted July 26, 2015 #5 Share Posted July 26, 2015 We have generally found servers who were over the top within the first couple of days, asked for them each subsequent evening, and left a thank-you note and tip on the last night. I also leave a small cash tip at breakfast or brunch for great service. On our last cruise we got an amazing team first brunch day. I like butter, not the whipped whatever that is put on all tables, and they cheerfully brought it. Kept my coffee hot, my juice replenished, etc. etc. etc. In chatting with them found they also worked as a team at Anytime Dining. Asked for that team each evening thereafter and again left a note and tip on the last night. I have never had bad service but have had bordering on indifferent service. Amount of tip varies accordingly.
riffatsea Posted July 26, 2015 #6 Share Posted July 26, 2015 We always do ATD these days. When we find a waitstaff we like we request them every night of the trip. They get the normal portion of tips as described above. We often give them a little extra mid week as we don't like to wait until the last day of the cruise to show our appreciation. Seago2 Posted July 26, 2015 #7 Share Posted July 26, 2015 If you're talking about extra tips, they have a way of seating you with the same wait staff more times than not. Just bring your extra money the last couple of nights and give it to them.
