agree with other members, we each carry a pair of binoculars. Didn't want to spend too much on the binoculars so we ended up getting some $150 binoculars. To our eyes, they are as good as those binoculars 5x more expensive. It is important that your binoculars is waterproof. Last time when we saw whales from the cruiseship, it was raining hard.

i think I need a 12 step program. I hate packing for flying, to hotels, to ships, to condos to ferries where the temperature could be warm to freezing. The problem I am here to confess.... is I am a perfectionist and want to be dressed right at all times and have everything i want and not wish for anything that I should have brought... Once I am packed I feel a huge relief but I have been working on this all week and am determined to finish today.

Thanks for letting me vent:)! I love to travel so much that I am willing to go through this agony! I am used to driving to port which is so much easier.

I have some that are Bass and rubber and tie at the ankle. They are fairly heavy but might be worth it???

There are many people who feel that waterproof shoes are a necessity. I have never taken waterproof shoes and have not regreted it. It may depend upon what excursions you are planning to do. You will not need waterproof shoes on the ship. I don't hike on trails. I have been on whale watching tours and have walked around the shopping areas in 7 of the major ports. My tennis shoes are not canvas. They are standard New Balance shoes so they are somewhat water resistant. I definately would not take a pair of heavy waterproof shoes but others probably feel differently. Some people like to spray their tennis shoes with waterproofing but I haven't done that.

In addition to the SLR camera, I also use my android phone to take pictures. I bought a 64B memory card for my phone so I will never run out of memory space for pictures. Also bring binoculars. We use 10x42 waterproof binoculars

looks like it will be 65-75 at each port with chances of rain. I am from PA where it is in the 90s and hot and humid now....how is the humidity in these places (same ports as OP)?

At those temperatures humidity won't be an issue, unless it is in the nineties when it will be foggy or raining. The wind speed and direction will be a more important determination of comfort level/ clothing requirement. Strong winds from the north, or from the sea will make it feel a lot colder than a gentle breeze from the south.

agree with others that Alaska is different type trip to pack for than other trips and even other cruises.....light waterproof layers, forget the matchy matchy outfits as most others will not be that way and aren't looking at people as they are looking at scenery......Alaska is very casual.......warm, layered and something light on outside that is waterproof......weather changes constantly so don't depend on long term weather forecast either
