LeftatGator Posted September 22, 2005 #29 Share Posted September 22, 2005 A boat is what you go in if you have an emergency evuacation. You mean like that big white Carnival "boat" that is being used for Katrina???:p
Arizona Cruz Chic Posted September 22, 2005 Author #30 Share Posted September 22, 2005 I just wonder what the Captain or an Officer thinks when someone asks a question about the BOAT they are cruising on!!! I bet they just want to cringe :D ***

Grumm Posted September 22, 2005 #32 Share Posted September 22, 2005 Having just come off a Princess cruise, I suggest we settle the argument by calling the floating vessel an "ark". Some of the sights I saw going up the gang plank two-by-two!!!! Alan
DonLou Posted September 22, 2005 #33 Share Posted September 22, 2005 As the Captain on one of our cruises explained, "you can put a boat on a ship, but you can't put a ship on a boat". But you can put a ship on a boat! But that would be a tragedy. For the boat.
Luna Posted September 22, 2005 #34 Share Posted September 22, 2005 I'm sure many of us were already aware of the correct terminology without your edification. (flame me if you want, but I say this "tongue in cheek"). ;) That being said, I don't give a rodent's rear end what you call it as long as you don't make me miss it! :D

Onessa Posted September 22, 2005 #37 Share Posted September 22, 2005 I have several relatives who are Navy aviators - They LIVE to tweek the regular Navy types - "So I get on the boat and ask if the bathroom is downstairs at the front of the boat and to the right" :D
mbisson Posted September 22, 2005 #38 Share Posted September 22, 2005 For everyone who calls it a boat......... It's not a boat, It's a SHIP! :D :D A boat is what you go in if you have an emergency evuacation. A ship is what you are on during your cruise. *** Aren't submarines called "boats"? In case of emergency, I want one of those. Other than that, I've always though of boats as a vessel that will fit on a ship (as others have said) -Monte
TheWog Posted September 22, 2005 #39 Share Posted September 22, 2005 And without a doubt, some of us have the VERY favorite: MUSTER DRILL! (not mustard drill!) ORANGEinINDY Posted September 22, 2005 #40 Share Posted September 22, 2005 During the question session near the end of our cruise, someone referred to our vessel as a "boat".... The Cruise Director leaned over, and in a loud stage whisper, said to The Captain "He called it a BOAT!!!......." ....The Captain didn't really care. Iamthesea Posted September 22, 2005 #49 Share Posted September 22, 2005 I think we can all agree they are vessels. No, a vessel is a sink. :D http://search.ebay.com/vessel_W0QQfclZ4QQfnuZ1 Definition for boat: boat (bōt) n. A relatively small, usually open craft of a size that might be carried aboard a ship. An inland vessel of any size. A ship or submarine. [*]A dish shaped like a boat: a sauce boat.
TahoeBob Posted September 22, 2005 #50 Share Posted September 22, 2005 I paid a lot of money to go on a cruise and i will call it a boat if i want to, while I am the subject if i want to have on jeane and tank top for formal dining i will, I will be rude to everyone at dinner and be the table mate from hell, along the same subject i will bring crying kids into the dining room to disturb everyones dinner, I will be the one who pushes every elevator button before you get off the thing. I also will be the one who does not leave any tips for anyone all cruise long. I will also let my son go in the pool in swim dipers, and not really care what others think (my son is 28 so he might look kind of funny) there must be other things i can do to be rude and crude on my next cruise, so every one just look for me on a cruise I will be easy to spot, I will be the one being made to walk to plank.
