Yes, I would recommend the audio guide. it was very well done and I found it very helpful to hear the background of Picasso's early life in Barcelona and how it influenced his work. This is an outstanding museum of his early work, arranged chronologically in several Gothic palaces that are interesting all in their own. I was just there in June and hopefully, the temporary Dali exhibit is still there because it was also excellent.

With well over 4000 works, there is plenty to keep your attention and most descriptions are sufficient. It is really a personal preference issue with the audio guide. While they are well done and very informative and fortunately do only cover 51 key works, they are not 'necessary' to enjoy the collection. It will really just depend on how deep an appreciation you want to gain from these key works and it is interesting how they do describe the circumstances behind the process for each piece.
