UKCruiseJeff Posted September 15, 2015 #551 Share Posted September 15, 2015 J...That sounds awesome! The camera is really an amazing piece of wizardery! Does the Playmemories mobile app work on say a Surface Pro? Or does it need to be an ipad? And it needs to be installed on the camera as well? Still haven't ventured out with it. If tomorrow is sunny as predicted I want to go play in the park. Some interested shaded passages through there. Yes M, download the windows app called M2 Sony Remote control. It works. Rare mysty Posted September 15, 2015 #552 Share Posted September 15, 2015 Thanks J! It's on the list - we have a few glitches to work out with Windows 10 and Playmemories. I have bookmarked the shell site. Myster will be working on it when he can keep his eyes open. :)
UKCruiseJeff Posted September 15, 2015 #553 Share Posted September 15, 2015 Jeremy Corbyn made a speech today. to the Unions. My wife has asked me to stop shouting at the television as she says he cannot hear me. Perhaps I need to shout a bit louder. :( Jeff

Rare mysty Posted September 15, 2015 #556 Share Posted September 15, 2015 Seriously? What is wrong with that man? It is an insult to all who served and all those who continue to serve. What arrogance! You lot are in a heap of trouble! But surely saner minds will prevail and he will never be elected! I'm not sure he's a real threat. Every now and then we get the contrarian or the self-styled man of the people who presents himself as the panacea to all perceived ills. This appeals to the hard of thinking and isn't confined to the loony left although their examples (Benn, Foot, Skinner, Scargill etc) tend to be united in a sort of generalised hatred of anything that could be remotely called ''establishment'' while at the same time using that establishment to further their messianic agendas. We get them on the right, too, Farage being a good example. After a while most people seem to see through the artifice and realise that extremes are unhelpful. Also it all adds a frisson of excitement through the Fourth Estate who really love people like Corbyn with his potential to help them fill acres of column-inches. If the Labour party were struggling before last weekend, they are now on the canvas and the ref has started the count.
mjnvoyager Posted September 16, 2015 #558 Share Posted September 16, 2015 I think that the thing that annoys me most about JC is that he thinks that he and his ilk have a monopoly on compassion. People of other political persuasion have sympathy and concern for those that genuinely need help.
UKCruiseJeff Posted September 16, 2015 #559 Share Posted September 16, 2015 (edited) Totally agree. There is a world of difference between feeling compassion and having responsibility. That is why I felt that Melanie Philips caught the theme well in her article about the difference. These people are merely telling us about themselves. Public expressions of compassion signify that a person is good. Their absence demonstrates heartlessness. This has been called “virtue signalling”, or mandatory emoting, and it has now reached its crazy apotheosis in the great migration crisis. http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/opinion/columnists/article4552486.ece?shareToken=d5c80e70c539b7c631d09ea4f6544542 Evidently Corbyn has today said that next time he will sing the National Anthem. He clearly hasn't worked out that the damage has already been done. To pretend to attend an event to honour those that chose to risk and who gave their lives in the name of "QUEEN (or King) and country" but then dishonour them in this way really says it all. I guess his excuse was that he wasn't going to compromise his republican beliefs by compromising his behaviour to respect the feelings of those soldiers attending. They would have seen this as insulting and unacceptable and hurtful to the vow of allegiance that they gave for him. Pretty much every soldier alive today is patriotic to both Queen and country and singing the National Anthem means something. Not singing it means something. The accepted workaround for people like JC is to mouth the words without making the sound. That at least shows respect and sensisivity to others without compromise to inner feelings. It shows compassion and intelligence. But he has now decided to do differently next time. So much for moral compass. If the Labour party were struggling before last weekend, they are now on the canvas and the ref has started the count. It is however a blow for all of us. Not to have an energetic and viable and sensible opposition harms us all. I also genuinely feel sorry for those sensible socialists who have now lost their party. They haven't moved but their party has. Where will they go? Many UKIP. Some to Conservatives. And we now have the impending Union battles with respect to union power and strikes. Spoiling for some of the confrontations and national disruption of the old days. If this isn't resolved soon and it probably it will not be then we will all suffer, and the homeless labour supporters may have to look for a new leader and new party as the Conservatives seize the moment and lurch further to their natural home ground - leaving some Conservative supporters also homeless and leaving an enourmous middle space. Spaces always get filled by something. Not always something good. The law of disparate converging trends producing unintended copnsequences, which is of course entirely how JC came to be where he currently is ironically. Spoiling for some of the old days. Appreciate these various updates on the new UK Labour Party leader. Yes, very interesting to follow how these things of "politics" happen in another country. Tonight there will be a big debate at the Ronald Reagan Library in California. CNN will have it and it for for two hours and 40 minutes. Very long with 11 different candidates. From the Telegraph in London today using Jeff's good http://www.thebigproject.co.uk/news website, I noticed these two headlines: • Jeremy Corbyn involved in angry confrontation after his driver 'assaults' BBC cameraman outside home. • Labour leader refuses to apologise for anthem snub. Will keep following these issues with interest. PLUS, the struggles and battles in Europe for how things are "managed" with the sad story of the fleeing refugees from Syria, etc. THANKS! Enjoy! UKCruiseJeff Posted September 16, 2015 #564 Share Posted September 16, 2015 (edited) Listen Mark, You'd need more than a Steak Tartare for a double yoker. You'd need a Steak G'day rather than Tartare! You are a lucky man when it comes to eggs. You remind me that the only good thing that came of working for The Corporation was that my Senior Systems Engineer kept chickens and every few days he'd come into work with a few eggs covered in "stuff" and I'd buy them, and I'd rush home. Stuff work. That man had his life sorted out. And when I got home wifey would wipe off all food plans for the day and we'd have eggs instead. Why would someone ruin decent eggs by adding raw meat? Jeff Edited September 16, 2015 by UKCruiseJeff

When I can get them I savour every bite! You are of course right M! I was only yoking! I miss the people, the banter, the incredible training, the wonderful colourful customers, the family events when our families were thanked for tolerating absent men, the salary, the pension, the Falcon fleet for lovely trips around Europe in private jets, a company maintained car, the staff in my teams who tolerated me and my oddness and coached me into becoming adequate eventually, my industrial trainees who came for a gap year from university and who I always found permanent jobs for and how they always adopted me and looked after me ... and ..... and .... :) No nothing really! :D Jeff

UKCruiseJeff Posted September 16, 2015 #569 Share Posted September 16, 2015 I wish that were true M. I was lucky in that as they came searching for us, so they were stuck with what they got if they joined. I also never never interviewed except to give a final "yes". In my view my team had more influence over the success over anyone joining the team than me. They could make or break them. They were talented, I just managed them. So anyone wanting to join were invited to spend time with the team and if the team collectively thought they would fit in and could be productive and wanted them - then they joined. As they chose who joined they ensured they were successful. I just said yes to whoever they chose. I then asked them to produce a set of objectives, and at the end of each year asked them to appraise themselves. They were always tougher on themselves than I would be. This approach seemed to work for me. My job was simply pay and rations and to try and stop the corporation impeding their progress. Jeff
Rare mysty Posted September 16, 2015 #570 Share Posted September 16, 2015 And Jeff, that is exactly what a good boss should do! Having the potential new hire work with the team and having the team decide on the appropriateness of the fit was perfect! They appreciated your trust in their abilities and they rewarded that trust with their best efforts! And there are not enough bosses like that around now. Happy Birthday to your daughter! I hope she has a wonderful day! :)
