MrsElizabeth Posted September 9, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 9, 2015 We'll be celebrating on our upcoming cruise and I was wondering if the cake was worth it. Is it significantly better than the free desserts?
Rare DragonOfTheSeas Posted September 9, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 9, 2015 Yes, the cake is very good. I have ordered the white cake/white icing twice for DH birthday. Each time we had it delivered to the dining room and shared with our tablemates [6 + us]. We had enough to bring a couple pieces back to the cabin last time. It had a clear plastic snap top to keep it fresh. It cost about what I would pay for a bakery cake at home. I think it tases better than the MDR cakes. YMMV
jaimevoyager Posted September 9, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 9, 2015 The cakes are really good. We ordered one for an anniversary and a birthday celebration two years ago on Brilliance. i believe they were only 16.00 for an 8 in cake.
Desertbelle Posted September 9, 2015 #4 Share Posted September 9, 2015 We'll be celebrating on our upcoming cruise and I was wondering if the cake was worth it. Is it significantly better than the free desserts? Our experience is very different than the previous poster. I found the cake you can buy for celebrations to be very mediocre and not worth the extra cost. Unless cake means a great deal to the celebration person, I would skip it and pick a nice dessert off the menu. :)

I was disappointed with the cake and from now on will just order a dessert from the menu to celebrate.
garnetpalmetto Posted September 9, 2015 #6 Share Posted September 9, 2015 I got one for DW last year for her birthday and it was QUITE good. Better than the complementary MDR desserts? Depends on the type of dessert you like. I only want cake once in awhile but could eat key lime pie or bread pudding just about any day of the week, so naturally I'd rank it below those, but DW (and our tablemates who also joined in) thought it was excellent. RCCruiser26 Posted September 10, 2015 #7 Share Posted September 10, 2015 (edited) I ordered the 8 in chocolate cake with chocolate frosting for my daughters 21 birthday on the Freedom of the Seas August 23rd sailing. It was delicious. We were very pleasantly surprised on how good it was. Edited September 10, 2015 by RCCruiser26
TheTruthCanHurt Posted September 10, 2015 #8 Share Posted September 10, 2015 I Have ordered this on almost every ship I have sailed. It is hands down THE BEST dessert on the entire ship. They should serve it in the MDR instead of that junky lava cake and key lime vomit. It's a very good cake (in my opinion)

LilBlackDress Posted September 10, 2015 #10 Share Posted September 10, 2015 We ordered 2 Chocolate Cakes for my Dads birthday. My mom doesn't really care for chocolate but she had a piece and she fell in love. She insisted on ordering a vanilla a few days later!! We had a party of 13 and everyone enjoyed it! Summerknight Posted September 10, 2015 #11 Share Posted September 10, 2015 We do not care for the cake. My DH speaks to the head waiter upon boarding and I have been presented with desserts with a candle included on the appropriate day. Even had a bowl of fresh berries once. The dining room staff have always been happy to arrange sweet treat.
TheGaDawgFan Posted September 10, 2015 #12 Share Posted September 10, 2015 We ordered a chocolate for my son's birthday. He was turning 5 and expected a traditional cake. We all enjoyed it. It's cheap compared to cakes at Disney.

TX.Mameow&Papeow Posted September 10, 2015 #14 Share Posted September 10, 2015 We ordered a birthday cake from our waiter the night before we wanted it for our granddaughters birthday. It was chocolate with strawberries and happy birthday with her name on it. It was delicious and very moist. Everyone at he table enjoyed it and commented how good it was. this was on Navigator in August and the cost was less than $15.
mad-dog74 Posted September 10, 2015 #15 Share Posted September 10, 2015 (edited) We ordered a vanilla cake on Freedom in June. It was *VERY* good. We all thought it was. Very moist and very good icing. For $16 (or $16.95) it was a very good purchase that brought smiles to my daughter's face (and our waitress when we offered her a piece!)
