Best way from Le Harve to Deauville if you do not want to rent a car?

Hello

I don't know where you looked, but on the official SNCF website the journey time is more than 3 hours in either direction and will necessitate changing trains in Rouen and Lisieux.

Driving will take 51 minutes and is 44kms and there is a toll of €5.90 in each direction on the Pont de Normandie. Use Viamichelin for driving instructions as they are very detailed and accurate.

Seems like a no brainer to me!:)

It seems there is also a bus service :

Line 20 on this map : http://www.busverts.fr//upload/plan/plan-Bus-Verts-rentree2015.pdf

Here is the website for the bus service

http://www.busverts.fr/index.php (there is sort of an English version when clicking on the flag).

And the timetable : http://www.busverts.fr/upload/fiches_horaires/bis/L20S1.pdf (Le Havre -> Deauville) and http://www.busverts.fr/upload/fiches_horaires/bis/L20S2.pdf (Deauville -> Le Havre). A little bit more than one hour apparently. Check the fine prints to find out when a particular bus is running.

The same line goes to Honfleur.

It doesn't seem to be a whole lot quicker than the train (about

This part of France is simply ideal for a rental car (once you are out of Le Havre it is a pretty rural region with lazy country roads. But if you want to deal with public transit the regional bus does offer some options, but you really have to adapt your day to the very infrequent buses and pray that they keep to the schedule, there are no work stoppages, etc. You also need to deal with getting between the port and the train station (if using the train) which we walk in about 45 min (only 10 min in a taxi if you can get a taxi to make the short run).

But I will pose a question. Assuming you have never been to Deauville (we have been there a couple of times) why do you want to go to this city. It really lacks the charm of Honfleur (a little closer to Le Havre) and has lost a lot of its attractiveness over the years. About the only thing we enjoyed in Deuville was a large flea market (we just happened to drive into town on the right day).

Yes, I was wondering this too - it's no longer the place it was in its heyday. The glamour of yesteryear has long since gone. Unless I missed it, you didn't say WHEN you'll be there - Deauville in November I'd avoid like the plague!

Honfleur is much more attractive. And it's true about roads in rural Normandie, once off the autoroute you can just amble and you'll be driving on the same side of the road as you would at home.:)
