Friends who recently disembarked Oriana reported that there were no Port Talks live inn the theatre on board.

They were only available on the in cabin TV at indeterminate times.

Is this now the norm or was there perhaps a personnel problem

I think its the norm. It was the same as that on our last cruise.

It's cost cutting. One less "entertainer" to pay for.

Well they must have splashed out on our cruises in the past 2 years as we have always had port talks. And that is 6/7 cruises on 4 ships. They tend to be part of the excursion team the last one was Australian.

We had port talks on our recent cruise. However, they were about Egypt and our cruise was going to Iceland!!! Needless to say we never bothered to attend any of them.

I wonder who the bright spark was that booked that speaker,

You are confused.

There were port talks on the Iceland cruise (I know as I was on the same cruise!) about the stops in Iceland , Faroes, etc, but you didn't miss anything by not realising they were on as they were shockingly bad.

The Egypt talks on the other hand were talks from one of the guest speakers, and were quite good (but not as good as the talks on the history of the electric guitar).

Yes I've been to a few of those and they are not what I call port talks. It's just reading from a script and in many cases the presenter has not even been to the port in question.

On the other hand a specialist lecturer knows the ports and areas well. It's some years since I have come across one of those on P&O though.
