OBC prepurchase in CAD

Hi everyone -- just a quick question please.

I have searched the forum and can't find a definitive answer to this one!

If I prepurchase $500 in CAD (and pay the exchange rate at time of purchase) and don't use all of it, will I be refunded the leftover in cash (USD) on board at guest relations on last night of the cruise or will the leftover be credited back to the credit card I used when I bought it in the first place?

I have read several threads here and know that I can theoretically cash it out at the casino for a 3% exchange, but I was just really curious if NCL has a similar way of doing it to Celebrity. (Last year, on a Celebrity cruise, I did that very thing and they gave me cash on the last night, so just wondering.)

Thanks very much :)

Please don't take as gospel but the most likely way of getting a refund from NCL is by cheque from Florida well after the cruise has finished. :(

A couple of cruises ago we had a big credit as we had had to cancel trips in St Petersburg as we were full of cold and then a shore excursion in Stockholm didn't take place as the ship wasn't allowed to dock.

We had a credit of over USD800 and the only offer was to send a USD cheque to NZ from Florida in 3-4 weeks. Horror as it would take up to 2 weeks to get there, then I would have to send it to a daughter in Canada to bank, another 2weeks and finally my bank would take it as being a foreign cheque and hold the funds for up to 6 weeks.

Luckily the financial controller on the ship had brains and initiative when I pointed this out and paid me in cash. :D :D

We had a whopping $5 and change left over of unused purchased OBC and our CC was refunded within days of being off the ship. And yes, we used a Canadian CC to purchase the OBC.
