Rare jimbo5544 Posted October 15, 2015 #26 Share Posted October 15, 2015 Never thought CCL would go there. Fun ships doesn't seem like a Chinese thing. To be honest, I was very surprised when I saw and read it. The draw must be really strong, it is counter intuitive to just about everything they have said and done in the past specifically with the CCL brand). Two years is a long ways out though, we will see what happens.
AdrenalineRush Posted October 15, 2015 #27 Share Posted October 15, 2015 Interesting to say the least. Like everyone else they are following the money. Two years is a long time tho....... To a consumer two years might seem way off, but to a corporation its just around the corner. They are always thinking 10+ years into the future. guxu Posted October 15, 2015 #29 Share Posted October 15, 2015 Cruise is still relatively new in China. The rich Chinese businessmen and corrupt officials tried that. Those people and their mistresses bought $3,000 shirts and $10,000 handbags without a blink. They could easily drop $500,000 in casino too. I guess cruise line executives thought average Wong would do the same.
Haoie Posted October 15, 2015 #30 Share Posted October 15, 2015 Mind you they won't be marketed as affordable, average family vacations over there, that's for sure.

With so many ships flooding in, it is inevitable. A 7-day cruise on RCCL's Quantum of the Seas was on sale for less than $800 pp for balcony cabins. And I do not think they will charge tips. As this story illustrates they are the type of consumers cruise lines love, those willing to shop. While this story is about shore shopping, Onboard spending is through the roof on cruises from China. The cruise lines can't build/move ships fast enough to serve the largest middle class in the world. http://www.cruisehive.com/chinese-passengers-quantum-of-the-seas-empty-stores-in-japan/7363

I do not think Chinese middle class will buy $10 drinks. And I do not think they will pay tips.
