Straw market

The Straw Market is just a few blocks from the dock. Just be advised that unless you want good made in China, be harassed by most vendors and literally find the same stuff in every booth, find a different place to shop or buy souvenirs. For us it was a complete waste of time. UGH :eek::eek::eek::eek:

Cheers

The straw market can be seen when you sail in. You can easily walk to it once you exit the port gates. Go to the main streeet and turn right. You cannot miss it. It was rebuilt in recent years.

It is a tight and crowded place with vendors selling the same t shirts, towels, straw made items and to be honest, most of the stuff is not good quality.

The vendors will bargain with you if you happen to find anything of interest.

I stopped going as there is nothing there that I need.

They also sell the same items at the port building that you need to go through to enter and exit.

Finding authentic island made items is a challenge. The vendors do decorate with colored threads but I doubt most of what they sell is made in Nassau.

I agree with the others that the straw market isn't worth going. Years ago it was really nice to see the islanders making their goods and selling them at the market. Now it is a really crowded, hot place where the vendors hawk you as you walk through. You can make deals with them and get the price down, but the quality isn't very good. I do buy a few trinkets every time I go to Nassau because I am always traveling with people who have never been before.

There is a free beach within walking distance called Junkanoo Beach. Google it and see for yourself.

Ditto to what everyone else said. I've been there twice now and have no desire to go back. People are very pushy and everything that you can find at one stand you can find at another. I'd rather go to an actual store front there and shop, they have the same items and no one is grabbing me and hollering that they have a better deal. I always feel like I'm going to get pick pocketed or something in there.
