Leaving on Splendor Friday...Any Questions?

Negatives:

- this ship bounced around more than any other (25) we have sailed, including 2 transatlantic

- deck layouts (very chopped up); using decks 2, 7, and 9 (Lido) to traverse from one end to the other worked well

- coffee (horrible); we resorted to the Coffee Bar

- headliner production shows (dancers were not together, seemed amateur)

Positives:

- we enjoyed the food! I do not know what everyone is complaining about. Highlights were the lobster, surf & turf, chateaubriand, salmon, Tandoor, Wok, and sea day brunches

- popcorn at the "Dive-In" movies (bring your spray butter)

- crew (gracious, friendly, and most helpful)

- aft pool (close to Tandoor & Deli)

- performers (all good with the exception of Christine; we are broad-minded, but she was a little too raunchy for us)

- hot tubs on the deck above the Lido pool (secluded, quiet, and not crowded)

I do not have the menus, and we did not use the spa. Sorry

The positives far outweighed the negatives. Any questions?

I've sailed on Splendor 9x in the last year. I found best deck to navigate the ship is Deck 5. Casino, shops, coffee shop, comedy club, showroom all on deck 5 .you will never hit a dead-end on deck 5. As far as ship bouncing around, never happend to me.

The positives far outweighed the negatives. Any questions?

What cabin/location did you have?

Did you eat in the Steak House - and if so, what are your comments?

The casino - was it terribly smoky or does the A/C system filter it fairly well?

The live music - what were the options and how were they in your opinion.

I believe Serenity is on deck 9 or 10 on either side (port & starboard), but is the rear pool adults only? Was it peaceful?

That's all I can think of now, but might have other questions as I think of them. Thanks for offering!

spring41 - Sorry. I do not know if the menus were old or new; however, we were pleasantly surprised (based on prior reviews) with the choices and quality. No complaints at all.

Florings - we were in cabin 7440. We did not go to the steakhouse, but we did order from them (for a surcharge) in the main dining room and were very happy with our dinner.

The casino was smoky and confined. If you do not want to dodge slot machines and smoke, I would not recommend using Deck 5 to traverse the ship.

The live music performers were: Greg (acoustic), Music Boardwalk (party), Impromptwo (variety), Latin Fever (Latin), and Christine (Piano). All were very good. Personally, we did not care for Christine, but she did have a following. Karaoke was a hoot, and we loved the venue (El Morocco) and the DJ.

You are correct about the location of Serenity. It was OK, but did not have a hot tub which is a minus for me. The aft pool was "adults only" and peaceful.

Let me know if you have any more questions. Glad to oblige..........

We are on this same voyage. Seas were indeed choppy, but the ship wasn't any better or worse than others in the same chop.

Food is the old menues. Well prepared. Served hot or cold as appropriate. We had ATD but after the first night always asked to be seats in JayJay's section. He and his team are wonderful.

The buffet is great for breakfast and lunch. Lots of choices. Love, love, love the tandoori station and the deli.

I believe splendor is unique in design. The midship Lido pool area with retractable roof is terrific. Two stories, movies, music, hot tubs that can b covered if the weather warrants is a great feature.

We have an aft balcony. Room is small but fine for two (7449). Great Steward Hary.

Looking forward to your review, we will also be going to the Steakhouse, have never done it yet  And we are doing YTD for the first time. So any info for these would be greatly appreciated. TY :D

Steakhouse was WONDERFUL! Highlight of our cruise. We did your time dining and never had to wait, we were a party of 5. Elpidio was our server most nights and he was FANTASTIC!! Leslie was also a good server.

We're doing the Dec 13th sailing to Caribbean and I'd love to know the dinner menus so I can plan steakhouse :-)

I didnt get to take pics of the menus, sorry. :( I can tell you they still have the old menus though.

Have fun!!!

Would love to see pictures of the MDR menus.

What kind of cabin are you in and what deck? I'd be curious to know what your room temperature is like.

Also - and someone may be able to answer this already - what bars are on Lido deck? And what are their drink menus? I usually hit Red Frog Rum Bar or Alchemy Bar; I know there is no Alchemy Bar, but I don't think they have the Rum Bar either on Splendor. Want to start planning my drink options (I don't like wine or beer, so cocktails all the way!!) :p

Thanks!!

Our cabin was 7442, and it got really cold with the air. Our friend was in 7428 and her cabin never got cold enough.

I agree, deck 5 is the best to navigate from one end to the other.

Is the Splendor still using the old menus in the dining room?

Steakhouse is wonderful, well worth the fee. Casino was very smokey.

If you could post the Room service menu or just tell me if the new one is in place or they still have the old room service menu!! Have a super trip!!!

New room service menu is in place.

Would love to know what 2.0 upgrades she is going to get in March. Maybe one of the crew would know? So if in passing you happen to think about it while your having a glorious time ...I would be interested in knowing....:D

The Hotel Director announced during the Diamond/Platinum "party" that Sensation is not getting the typical 2.0 upgrades because she is relocating to China/Asia - and they want to customize for that market. I guess Guy's Burgers might not be such a big hit there..

Our steakhouse dinner on the first night was definitely NOT wonderful. Not even close to being as good as the other three times (last time on Splendor 11/1/14).

The ship layout is not very different from any of Carnival's ships (other than the Spirit-class). The "choppy" layout is well known. Yes, there's a galley between the two dining rooms so, yes, you have to find another way to navigate.

I'll probably write a review, but I didn't take any notes at all and very few photos. You can find a million ship photos out there on the World Wide Web. ;)

We had some pretty good sized swells on the way home but I didn't have any issues at all with the movement. Ginger Root, people. It works.

Of course the casino is smokey. All the indoor cig addicts congregate at the smoking end of the bar. And Carnival can't seem to figure out that if they'd group the non-smoking in one area, it might help a bit. Completely and utterly pointless to have a group of non-smoking surrounded by smoking. Pointless. And the people who just stroll around the casino while smoking don't help. And, of course, Carnival doesn't enforce their in-casino smoking rules at all, which also doesn't help.

Some very hot spots in the casino but some very cold ones as well.

Wasn't terribly impressed with the entertainment, but I rarely am. I don't cruise for the music or the food.

Food wasn't great but I certainly didn't go hungry. Never do. Love the deli. Burritos were good. Honestly didn't find them to be very different from Blue Iguana, and they offer chips which BI doesn't. Love Carnival's hot dogs.

OK, these are just random thoughts. I again encourage people to click the ship name at the top of the board and do some reading there.
